hi there guys

so i was playing my vh4 with a Gibby LPC today and i noticed some noise-distortion on ch1 especially with open chords(gain below 12 o'clock and bedroom volumes)
something like when you have some cable noise.but i changed both speaker and guitar cables so there is no issue.
also noticed that noise on ch2.what could that be,?it's sounds like some extra (very light)distortion

any comment will be much appreciated

thanks in advance

cheers

Les Paul Classic of Custom?? what pickup is in it?? I know i have a 500T in mine & it can be a tad dirty...its a hot pickup.

could be a preamp tube, could be a power amp tube, could be a cap - I'm sure there are other possibilities, but I'm too dumb to know.

have you tried a different guitar? do you still have the same problem? make sure everything else is fine before you start messing with your amp.

yes i tried with different guitars, but the problem still exist

BTW:the i got the amp back in 2007 august and never changed the tubes
and i play 2-3hours x week,

i think its time to freshen up those tubes. I play my Customs with the 500Ts which are hot... and it sounds fine. Nothing like the smell of fresh tubes burining in early in the morning!! :powpow:

Try new preamp tubes so you can isolate the problem and then report
back in.

thanks for the help guys.

any reccomendation?what brand?
can i swap the preamp tubes any problems?i mean only power tubes need biasing right?

Yes, you can change the preamp tubes very easy.
I had a similar problem some time ago with my Herbert and it was just a bad preamp tube.
I would recommend to use a handkerchief when you pull out tubes/put the new inside because grease on your hands is not the best for them ;)

In my Herbert I like 12AX7 from TAD, but that amp is much darker than a VH4,
so you better ask some VH4 useres what they prefer.

When we got our VH4 I bought 4 different 12AX7's and we swapped them around till we got the sound we liked most. I couldn't tell you under hypnosis what they are, but becuase of the way the tubes come in and out of the amp circuit you can 'tune' your sound just by swapping the positions.

Might be worth a try if you are of an experimental mind. (And have time on your hands :) )
