Maybe its just me but i dont feel like lately im getting enough mids out of my herbert. It seems like the mids are more on the trebly side than i preffer. Im wondering what i could do to fix this issue. Its got el 34's. Would changing them to 6550's make a big difference? I also use a diezel rear loaded with custom eminence speakers. Maybe a front loaded gk12100 will warm it up? Or maybe even using a bogner or different cab. It just seems to Bright for me. I have the treble settings a 9:00 too.
Experienced thoughts and suggestions would be great:)

Eminence drivers - while great - can be on the bright side. The GK12-100's will certainly warm it up and round off the treble/top end. Moreover, Bogner cabs will do the trick post-haste! Also, I've not yet tried them, but the new Diezel cabs are supposed to be heaven sent and perfect for any/all Diezel amps. Finally, there are many factors involved in shaping sound like what kind of guitar, pickups, etc... as well as the settings you're using. Maybe post those things (particularly your settings)??

Not to be pedantic, but where do you have the mids currently set?

EL34s produce much more mid-frequencies than 6550s or KT88s fyi.

Bogner cab or stuff some insulation inside of your current cab to tame the highs. It works & it sounds cool too.

EVM12Ls my friend!

And maybe moving away from stratocasters would be a great idea. Have you tried a Horizon yet?

im with the others, i think its a cab/speaker situation. im using 2 of the new frontloaded german cabs and man, they sound really, really good!

Try setting all your EQs to high noon..and work from there. I have an older Diezel FL cab and i run my Herbies mids @ around noon & its plenty (IMO) give that a shot. I am running 6550's in mine at the moment. I used to have EL34s in mine mixed w. 6L6s. Sounded great...but i do prefer the 6550's.

And yes..the new FL G12K100 cabs are the shizzzznit!!

I wasn't really a fan of JJ's in the Herbie(VH4 is the sex though I think), but I have to agree actually, they have more midrange and a darker high end. One in v1 and v2 would be a good thing to try out. Probably cure your issue.

Thanks guys! That is a ton of great info! I've got a lot of stuff to think about and try out. I went to guitar center in Nashville today and played a bunch of bogner cabs. I must say that the best one tonewise was the greenbacks. TheY didn't have the fl ones but had just about every other kind. The only problem I forsee though is blowing them since they are rated so low. They didn't have the bottom end of the diezel but had a better breakup and high end characteristic. I really wanna try a new diezel b4 I buy one. Because I really didn't like any of the other bogners that much compared to the diezel. I REALLy gotta hear the new gk12100's though!

how long you in TN? i get back from doing the suhr clinic sunday, if you are somewhat close you can try mine out.
