Not happy with my G12H30's, which speaker next?

I have V30's. I have a 1x12 open back with an Eminence Legend V12 which I like, but it's not quite the one.

I bought a 2x12 with G12H30's about 6 months ago and I just can't bond with it, so I want to swap them out for something new. I want something with a tight low end and smooth (not harsh) highs. I prefer darker speakers. I'll use the cab for a Splawn Quickrod, Bogner Shiva and Dr Z Maz 18, so it will cover a lot of territory.

I keep liking what I hear when other people post clips with Greenbacks, but I had a Germino combo with a Greenback that I hated, it was harsh and flubby in the low end. It might have been because it was an open back combo, but I'd leery of trying the GB's again due to that.

What is the smoothest, warmest (no harshness, but not too woofy) speaker out there with a tight low end (no fart).

Anybody looking for a set of G12H30's that are just barely broken in, I'll be replacing these soon.

Im definitely with amplifire. I think that you would dig the G12-65's but man are the pricey . They have a greenback like vibe to them but they can handle more bass/ wattage. They aren't to bright either. I also like the g12h-80 (not cl-80 there is a differance!)and the mesa boogie MC90. Both of those speakers are pretty warm sounding.
hope this helps.

EightmanVT is looking for some H30s, but I'm not sure what ohmage he needs.

Hey man, did you ever get another marshall cab with the 65s? I remember outbidding you one about a year ago.

+1
MC90!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ever try a V30/H30 mix in your 2x12?? I'm using the Hellatone 30/60 speakers in my 2x12 and I like it a lot.

Sounds great with my Blackmore.

GB's in an openback sound just plain bad. Box them up and thennnn tell us what yu think. Seriously. If you can try out some Heritage GB's as well give them a shot. Dry and darker than the RI GB's IMO.

65's are great too. Have one mixed with a nicely broken in 75 in my JCM 800 combo. Big bottm and smooth mids with this combo.

I'm still eager to try some H30's since all the Cameron soundclips use that speaker.

Hey Pete! yeah, I wound up picking up a 73' Greenback cab instead. I've got a JCM800 straight cab loaded with 65's as well

Cool. I'm sure that 73 w/GBs sounds good too. ;)

Hell yeah!!!!! I plan on taking both cabs to the grave :D

The G12H30's are known for taking a really long time to break in. I would say the Classic Lead 80's or MC90's but you might find those still a bit bright, they are smooth.
I think a G12-65 would be your best bet. You could get a Weber or Scumback version. I have a Weber G1265, nice speaker, but I went back to 2 CL80's so my G1265 8ohm is for sale, won't be on ebay till tax time though....

Eric Johnson used g12h-80's in his early live/studio recordings when he was cranking those 100 wplexi's to the max, they seem to handle that wattage/power and retain warmness. I might actually look into those on my 2X12 cab.

Thanks for all the replies, sounds like a G12-65 would be the speaker for me to try. I've had Lead 80's before in a 2x12 cab and they didn't impress me. Maybe the G12-65 Heritage or a similar speaker will be the one.

I see several references to Webers and Scumbacks...are there G12-65's that are less than the Celestion Heritage version but still sound as good?

BTW, I have Beam Blockers on all of my cabs except one, and I have them on this 2x12 with the G12H-30's...they helped somewhat, but I still don't like the high end I'm hearing. I play mostly in the slightly overdriven mode, with some clean playing and only rarely using a lot of gain, and I tend to dial my amps in dark, but I still hear too much high end most of the time.

Another vote for the G12-65...I didn't get along with H30's either and I'm not really getting along to well with the Mesa C90 speaker in my Lonestar classic combo either.
I'll either be putting a Celestion Gold or a Heritage G12-65 in the Lonestar combo.
