OD pedals with Shiva

The general consensus seems to be that an ordinary (non-20th Anniversary) EL-34 Shiva might need an OD pedal in front (or loop?) to get a real liquid lead tone (at least without REALLY opening the MV up).

My uses (and volume levels), would be in rehearsal and small club shows, with a hard rock band.

Curious as to which OD/boost pedals all you, experienced Bogner players, have found effective. I generally don't play music that needs extra gain for "metal" riffing, more concerned about a fluid, sustaining lead sound.

And if you don't think anything is really needed - I'd be interested in hearing those opinions as well.

In the used market, the price difference between a 20th (which presumably has extra gain) and even a very recent, ordinary EL-34 Shiva, is rather substantial. I don't necessarily love the KT88's and would be happy to spend the money saved on a killer OD pedal (or just use one that I already have - which would include a FullDrive 2, Wampler Pinnacle - or in the boost category I have a VL Giggity).

So please let me know what pedals you've liked and haven't liked into Shivas.

Thanks!

I've read many times that the Full Drive 2 is awesome in front of an EL34 Shiva.
I just use hot pickups when I play through mine. That's how I push the front end.
And yes, some volume helps.

Interesting, when I think "liquid lead" I think Ecstasy Blue Channel with Boost mode On
Does this liquidy feel come from the compression? I would think so
The Shiva is much more open sounding; I would try to find an OD that adds a bit a compression to the signal?
As for 20th vs EL34, it's EL34 all the way for me
Fulldrive? Gotta try mine with the Shiva I guess

OCD pedal gives me great tone with my 20th Shiva. But for liquid leads I think the Timmy pedal is better for leads. I use both and the Timmy gets more action on the lead Ch and the OCD gets me nice breakup on the clean Ch.

Timmy into the Shiva Drive channel is great. +1 on that.

You can adjust it right, and it almost *sounds* like it's not there, but just gets easier and more liquid to play.

Timmy also makes a great light-crunch on top of the clean channel.

+1 on this... I use mine this way (2013 EL34 Shiva). I also use a BB Preamp on the OD channel. Sounds great!
