Looking for a little help guys. I started noticing the volume and gain in my 101b becoming unstable so I had the power tubes replaced and biased. After the re-tube I never got the amp sounding the way it used to (which was TITS). A few gigs later I noticed that I had to have the gain and volume at levels I never used to have just to get useable tones. The next show, I realized 2 pre amp tubes were not firing. I replaced the 2 preamp tubes. I powered up and got a couple of sputtering tones (like a bad cable) and then nothing. I turned the volume up and saw and heard a sizzling spark towards the back of the chasis just above the line out jack. I immediately powered down. Anybody else have this happen? Where do I go from here? Back to my shop or should I see if Bogner can help?

First thing I would do is call Charlie and Bogner. He's a really helpful guy. See what he says before heading back to the shop. just so you are armed with info. Good luck!

First and foremost make sure ALL tubes pre & power are good. Obviously most crazy issues can be caused by even one (1) bad tube in the mix. Did you make sure the bias was set in the right range?

With the amp OFF take a 1/4 guitar cable and go in and out (a few times) of every jack on the amp to make sure there's no grime causing an issue. Remove the footswitch from the amp..power amp ON and change the channels and functions on the amp itself...make sure the channels are changing and f/x loop in and out.

Power on & Standby OFF.... (footswitch still detached) play the amp and switch all functions again on the amp (channels, boosts, switches..etc).

Then plug footswitch back in and do the same.

Try to narrow down where the problem may be using ALL of the steps above. Its something simple so dont stress too much. If there aare issues at every stage, then a professional tech or Bogner may need to get envolved/

Hope that helps!

Ok guys, Thanks for all the input. I tried your suggestions and I still had the problem so I took it to my amp tech. I just got my amp back. I have to say absence makes a heart grow fonder. It sounds soooo gooood. The problem was a short in the board just off the transformer right near the "OLD/NEW" switch. The tech used a dremmel to make sure the short circuit was severed and hard wired a jumper to insure the connection. Again, Thanks for the suggestions....

Good news! Glad you had someone local who could fix it!

I've had my XTC for a couple weeks now (bought a used 2004) and I've really been enjoying it. I actually removed the factory "2004 mod" and the Red channel sounds a lot better!! Way too dark and compressed when I played live the other night.

These are great amps!
