My buddy is getting into a more vintage tone phase and I wanted to try and help him dial in his Mod50 that direction versus buying another amp. He usually runs the Mod50 with an EG5 and 5881s in full power mode into a closed back 2x12.

What module/tube/power mode would be best to try capture that older Fender tone? I was thinking moving him to an open back 1x12 cab. Maybe trying the Bman with some JJ 6v6s. That a good route or is there a better way?

The BMAN will definitely get you the older Fender tones, depending on which older Fender tones you are looking for. You might also want to try out the DLX which can give you those shimmering Fender cleans.

What module is your friend using for clean? The EG5 is the opposite of vintage tone.

BMan would be my choice, btw. Does clean and dirty Fender very well.

I use a TD and run my amp at the low power setting which is 20 watts. Great vintage blues tones there, especially when I run a G12H30 Celestion

Hey Jarret,

Yea, good comments by the guys here, great ideas. For punchy distortion I am using the Bassman. I would love to have a Deluxe also, I think that would get some clearer sparkling F tones. I am running mine right now with open back cab and 6V6. Brings out the chime and is very vinatgey. Boosting with a BB doesn't hurt.
