Opinions on the Yamaha HS8’s?

I’m thinking of picking a pair of these up, but I’ve heard they have weak bass, even though they sound great otherwise. Do you think the 8’s would have decent enough bass, or should I be looking at some other options? They make a sub-woofer, but I’m thing an 8” speaker should produce enough on its own. Anybody worked with the 8” version of these before, and how would you rate them? Honestly a big part of it is they match my desk setup.

I had them and thought they sounded great until id play a recorded mix in another system and i had added way too much bass in the mix to make up for the H8's lack of bass.

Sold them and bought some used Mackie HR824s and it's like night and day.

Thank you for the insight, that's exactly what I'm trying to avoid, but dammit, they match my desks perfectly :doh:
 
They are nice monitors... but aren't the best at reproducing or capturing low end. I had a set of HS8s and the HS8 sub... but sent them back. I have the Adam A7Xs now and I'm much much happier. Better, truer, tighter low bass.

Also sometimes a sub maybe not the best idea depending on the room, size, and set up. A sub in the wrong room (small, untreated, no bass traps) will make things worse. Spend the money from the sub on better monitors.
 
I thought they lacked low end. Found em too trebly. Like my Adam A7X more. They also have the bass port in front.

Just get some older NS-10s!
