Hey,

what do you think is the best distance between the strings and the humbuckers?

Should the bridge and the neck pu are set on different distances?

And is it important, if the pu's are active or passive?

I have a guitar with SD Jeff Beck and SH2 and another one with EMG 81/85.

Thought here are some specialists ;)

Yes, the specialists are your ears. Adjust the height until you hear what you are looking for.
Closer to the string may give you more aggressive, but less clear tone and further may give you less aggressive tone
with more clarity and air. If you are truly trying to match a neck and bridge humbucker for volume, you will go mad !!!
EMG's do a decent job on the neck/bridge volume and have much less magnetic pull. You may notice a bigger difference adjusting them
closer to the strings. They can get close without messing up your intonation and causing weird string behavior.

^ Pretty much what he said.

I usually start high and work down until the pups aren't too 'boomy'. Also I tend to set the high E side a little higher then the low E, this takes some on the boom out of the lower range without sacrificing the highs.

Just my taste. It usually takes me a few weeks after a pup change to be happy with the height. Keep a screw driver handy while you play.
