OK, originally I had about $1k to spend, so I was targeting a Rebel or Renegade, or a used RM50. On that option, I was kind of leaning heavily toward the Renegade.

Now, I have freed up some other fundage, and now have close to $2300 (woo-hoo!!) My first obvious reaction was, "MOD50 BABY!!!" But then, I started thinking that for basically the same cashola, I could go ahead and get the Renegade, then use the extra cash for an E2 when they (finally) start shipping. That would essentially give me the equivalent of 6 tones (4 tones from 2 E2 modules and 2 from the Renegade) instead of 4 from the MOD50 w/2 modules.

I guess my biggest question is how does the power amp section of the Renegade stack up against the MOD50? My gut feeling is that I should go with the MOD50, but def. worth asking, I think...

Thanks :)

I'll probably be against the grain here, and I absolutely adore my Mod 50. But, I think for the coin, I'd get the Renegade (where you actually have 4 tones with the boost). Then with the E2, you have additional 4 channels for 8 total. Plus now you have the E2 whenever you need to take that to a gig or whatever and run into another amp loop or power amp. So really for about the same price, you have even more flexibility than having the Mod. And I'm telling you that darn Renegade sounds really really good.

guitar center or music 123 has 15% off single purchase, for the dough-I'd get the renegade, I love mine-especially with the 20% off labor day sale. I'm going to get the e2 most likely.

Yah, the more I think about it, the more the Renegade+E2 (when it is ready) makes sense. I played a Renegade at GC, and although I didn't really put it through it's paces, I could tell the thing really does stack up with all the modular Eggie stuff I have played in the past. Being able to switch/blend the 6L6 and EL34s separately on each channel is a great bonus too-something that can't be done on the MOD50.....Indoor Storm has a Renegade on its way for me to check out. I have a feeling that once I get it home, it won't be going back.

NOW....when is that dang E2 going to be ready?!?!?!? ;)

Mod50!!!!!! I have one and luv it. I want an E2 also but that could be another year or more before it is available. Or just buy Brads RM100 white Lynch Box and have it modded for duals. The RM100 has an amazing power amp that I think is more modern sounding. If you want 50 watts just pull the fuse out for a pair of tubes. you can also use 2 different pairs of tubes and it blends them.

DUDE, I played the Renegade and no doubts its awesome and you will be happy. BUT...

MOD 50, without question.

The power section is magic and the ability to have 2 module slots to plug in and out anything you want is nice. Sure, you could add E2 later to Renegade, but having the ability to grab and go without a bunch of stuff whatever tones you want at a moments notice and be out the door I find really useful sometimes. I usually decide 2 minutes before Im running out the door what two modules Im using for a gig that night. Drop in and grab the head and go.

Good points also. Too damn many decisions, ya'll!

While I'm deciding on the head, I went ahead and picked up a TM 2x12 cab today - good sell at GC. Dah-um that is the biggest 2x12 I think I've ever (man)handled! That sucker is like 3/4 the size of a 4x12 almost! Now if I just had something to plug into it....

I also think that while its nice to have more than 2 modules (4 sounds) at your feet at any time, it is really a luxury. Maybe if you are playing in a wedding band or something where you need really varied tones its needed, but otherwise, I really think a loaded M4 or Renegade+E2 is not NECESSARY.

If you are playing any sort of pop, rock, funk, blues, jazz, or metal then 2 modules is more than enough at any given time (or gig). If you are mixing all of those then maybe youd need more than 2 modules, but a MOD 50 gives you enough tones at any given time for 99% of gigs.
