Went with winged C EL34's and Dougs suggested preamp tubes
V1 - Tung-Sol reissue
V2 - high gain JJ ECC83S
V3 - Penta Labs 12AX7
V4 - Penta Labs 12AX7
V5 - Shuguang 12AX7C9
V6 - Sovtek LPS

I had some JJ 34's from another amp that I threw in there, and they sounded way better than the stock 6L6's. They were running just a tad cold, but the amp sounded great, so I decided to take the plunge and see if I really could call the Boogie a keeper. Cant wait to get em and check it out.

The amp probably isn't for you if you need specific tubes in it to call it a keeper.....

When I had a Dual Rec I ran it with SED EL34's and definitely preferred the amp with those over the stock 6L6's, but the base voicing was the same regardless of the tube compliment :).

I think you're going to love it with the =C= EL34's

Well I found the difference between the JJ 34's and the stock 6L6's was very noticeable in a good way. I honestly didnt care for it much stock, and was considering unloading it until I decided to just give a quick swap to see. Its most of the way there now, so I figured I would give it a go. I have pretty high hopes.

I got this in a trade BTW. I wanted to give a Recto a fair shake, and spend some time with it.

Dude, I really gotta figure out when I can make it out your way to swap amps for a bit. Anyway, I sure hope your right about the =C='s.

So I got the tubes from Doug yesterday and noodled around with the amp for a few hours. I am really digging it. I will be kicking this around for a while. Not my all time favorite amp, but cool none the less. It feels a lot better, and definately sounds more focused. I never thought I would be happy with a Recto, but its proving me wrong.

Clips or BAN. :gethim: :D
Well if someone would buy my Cameron Ocean, I would be able to get a new computer and do such things!!!

The thing about Doug is he recommends the same tubes for every amp. No matter what amp I ask him about: Mark IV, Carvin Legacy, Carvin V3, Road King, Studio Pre amp. Same tubes.

Roughly, yes. However, that combination works so well in almost all amps that it's hard to argue with him. Depending on the tone you're going for, he'll add or take out some JJs, 9th Gens, or Sovteks. He also will adjust power tubes for certain types of playing styles (metal, blues, etc.).

I got a Roadster the other day in a trade. I put some winged C's in it last night. I was just messin with it tonight and got some pretty crazy high gain tones, and am really impressed!! I definately like the 34's better. I love those Winged C's in every amp I've tryed so far. This Roadster is really cool.

Surely a big contrast next to the Camerons i imagine.

Acually, my Cameron is gone. I have a CCV on the way though. But yes, completely different. Those two amps together might make for a cool rig though.

I am glad you tried it and verified that I am not crazy LOL. I never got into the whole tube swapping thing to be honest. If I didnt have a set laying around to try it before ordering, I would've just written it off that I still hate Recto tone. Now I just can say that I hate stock Recto tone:)

Hope you get your Cameron soon. Curious to hear how different the production amps sound. I am curious about the CCM, as one of my Marshalls is practically a CCV.

Haha, no, you're not crazy. With the 6L6's in there, I found myself dialing things out, like lowend. Where now, I'm adding things like more lowend. I like to try and dial things in, instead of dial things out of an amp, if ya know what I mean.

Mark told me the CCV is a HG Jose, allmost exactlly like I had, with a clean channel and more options. Can't wait to get it.

Well, I have the "clean" channel, and I think all if not most of the options. The clean channel also makes a nice OD channel if you want instead of being just clean. Thats how I set it up on that amp.
