Hey everyone,

It's has been a long time since I last posted something but I started thinking about something
that has my curiosity and I was wondering if I could get some insight.

I have had my Herbert ( version 1 with the external bias points) for some time now and
running it with GK-100 front loaded cab. I had some trouble with it in the past, but after Peter helped me out trouble shooting the problem, it was the tubes all that time and has worked
perfectly since.

Now don't get me wrong, it is a great sounding amp and is my main player, but a couple of years ago
I was at NAMM and played the MK II version, using Peter's ( the cabinet designers ) guitar and
was totally blown away by the tone. The best way to describe the tone was like Yngwie's tone but
on steroids. Just absolutely killer sounding ! Granted, the guitar was some custom made one with I think bare knuckles pick ups...but I have been thinking, should I try out a MK II?

Any opinions on the overdrives channels I would like to get anyone's input who have had or played both.

Thanks !

Jim

PS...I would have attached a pic but I was unsuccessful, I have done it before but couldn't figure it out for some reason

We use different transformers on the MK2 to avoid heat
and did changes on the clean channel input.

After retubing some MK1 versions last week I cannot
decide which version is my favourite.

I do improvements because that´s a techs never
ending search getting the "perfect" version.
Customers may have a different point of view.

Don´t get rid off your MK1 version.

Cheers,
Peter

The cab has such a huge impact in the tone: I'd try to buy that cabinet before trying to swap a MKI for a MKII IMHO.

Thank you for the info Peter, I appreciate it. It was too bad you weren't at NAMM that year Peter..
That was literally the "perfect" tone for me. I'm sure the guitar and PUs had a lot to do with it,
but I also plugged in a Les Paul type guitar and that sounded awesome.

I can't remember your cabinet designers name ( I think his first name was Peter as well ) but he was there and I played his guitar through the rig and it was like a "light bulb" went off in my head.I found the tone ! I have been trying to replicate it since. If it's possible to see any of my earlier posts, I was able to post a pic of me holding the guitar from NAMM... I just can't remember how to add pics now because it has been a while since I posted.

To Cardinal: I have 6 different cabs all loaded with different speakers, front load, rear load etc...
and to me when it comes to the Herbert, it's the Diezel GK-100 front loaded one for me which I have,
and what is what I played through at NAMM (2012) when I tried the MKII.

I have all the high grade Ruby pre-amp tubes (tested for Diezel .. the "678" if I remember correctly ) designated ones and JJ KT-77s in the power section.

I just viewed one of my old posts and could see the pic I posted. It was Peter Stapfer's guitar
and Heinz took the picture....maybe this will help on the guitar specs?

I have owned both versions and currently have an MKII. It would behoove me for someone to be able to tell the difference in the amps. However, I do miss the external bias on all Diezel amps.

yeah, thats a big point for holding on to a MK1

I also thought about replacing my 2008 herbert with the mkII but im thinking it doesnt make sense, i like my amp alot and i rarely use the clean ch. so if theres no change in the tone of ch2 and ch3 then i should just keep what i have. Its not worth dealing with selling my amp and buying another one.

What are the change in the clean channel, I like my mkI clean, but I want to get a idea of the mod.
