One of the GC’s by me has a used Frankenstrat for $1700. I played it and it’s a cool guitar, but it’s a fuckin’ MIM Strat with a Floyd and an EVH finish and feels exactly like that.

Used prices have come down a bit on these but yeah, you are still paying close to 2K for basswood and for LESS expensive hardware like a standard bridge and only one pickup. I've been tempted at times but ultimately, nope.

I don't have them any more but these were $999 new without the case a few years ago.

The prices are $1599 on these, but you can find them for quite a bit less.
I got one last week. Plays and sounds fantastic.

Still, is there some end-of-days, epic stock exchange fall-out shit imminent, that we don't know about, but the CEO's of these companies do?
So much insane pricing going on lately... Randall, Dean, now this... Like they *want* to make themselves go bankrupt or something....
Don't charge people $1800 (or $1599) for what essentially is a $800-900 guitar at best...

I'll continue enjoying my Made in Japan Charvel So-Cal with quartersawn neck, alder body, 2 pickups (HA!) and including an SKB case, that I paid $800 for NEW in a store. :sneaky:

It's Nuckin Futz.
When you see these MiM for that $, and LTD Indonesian Gits for 2K.....seriously GTFO.

I'll continue to enjoy my 2009 USA Charvel, that I paid 650 for, in MINT condition, and my 86 Jackson San Dimas I paid 1K for...all the while I enjoy NOT buying the aforementioned foreign made guitars for stupid prices.

Same here. These are some of my favorite guitars but I would never buy one new. Mine play and sound great even though I’m not a fan of basswood.

It’s Ok to tell us how many decades ago you paid that price for them . Then I won’t feel bad about talking about my 1979 Jmp I paid 300 bucks for and still own it . ?

Compared it to my friend's Pro Am and my Suhr Modern. More than held it's own. Great beater guitar that I can take anywhere and not worry about. My buddy liked it so much he's getting one tomorrow. I hear a lot of people say they don't like basswood. I've had a few basswood guitars, and they were all good players, sounded fine.

Not decades.....The 2009 Charvel I picked up in 2016. The 86 Jackson USA was a rare 'score' at a GC.com 18 months ago.

I wish, that I wouldn't have HAD to have a rack setup in the 90s....and instead, took a chance on an old Marshall.....I'd have storage units FULL of them by now.

I remember about 10 years ago, the EVH stripped series guitars were less than 600 Euros new!
I déplore also the choice of basswood for every EVH guitars of that kind.

I’m with you . I have the high end and custom shops and there is a difference but these things you do not have to worry about .

I got a USA charvel from that era just last year for $1300.

I acquired a MIM EVH red/white/black striped guitar in a trade deal and while it was an ok guitar I did not think it was on par to my original 1983 Kramer Pacer(that is poplar wood body) and I gave it to a close friend as a wallhanger gift and it didn't bother me one bit.

Was it the Basswood body that I didn't like? I would almost have to say yes. Are all basswood bodies dead resonance-wise I don't know but there might be a reason EBMM uses maple to cap the basswood to give the body some snap to it.

I also acquired a 2016 MIM Charvel San Dimas in another trade that was Alder and while it still was not on par with my old vintage Kramers I feel it was a better guitar than the EVH that I had. I did note the Alder body of the Charvel had more resonance and played well.
