Yo eggie brothers!

So, it's that time in my life were I'll be in a condo and would like to have a silent practice option..I'm starting med school next month, and even though I doubt I'll have any free time, I'd still like to be able to strum around without bugging anyone.

Has anyone compare using a loaded down head with a pdi-09 and a randall mic eliminator? I just picked up a switchblade 8b so I plan on having my mod50 (with a load), m4, and effects hooked up to it. I figure I can then add a backtrack or mp3 player to the switchblade 8b, use that as a mixer, and go into headphones somehow.. I figure maybe adding some reverb in there after the cab simulation will help get it to sound more natural through headphones.

I'm sure a software cab will have the most options, but I'm trying to minimize tweaking and setup time (bring over laptop, start up, etc)...and although I've heard some great clips from the axe-fx, I really hate tweaking and going through parameters and menus, so I'd like to exhaust my other options before going down that route. I've never been a big fan of the POD either and would like to use the gear I already have if it I can get it to sound good. Plus, I figure if I dial it in right then I can just use the pdi-09 or randall mic eliminator in leu of a mic if I ever get gigging again.

Thanks!

The PDI-09 does not load the amp down you need a Hotplate or a PDI-04 (or 03) which is a rack unit. I have a PDI-09 mounted to the back of my MOD50 but only because I'm to lazy to mic the cab :)

the Randall mic eliminator is not a silent option at all , unless you purchase a RM 20 which has the silent option .. other than that, you have to have the speakers running to get it working !!
cheers

Yeah I know I have to use a load, I was figuring a hoteplate set to load and running the lineout of that into the pdi-09 or mic eliminator.

I was under the impression that you could get one separately and use it in a smilar fashion to a pdi-09. It doesn't replace the speaker, you'd still need to hook it up to a speaker or load box, but you could use it as a cab sim simultaneously.

best page about speaker simulators

I have Carl Martin Rock Bug but using it only if I have no chance for software (IR cabs)
IR method is not universal, but with good impulse you reach much more better results then with every HW simulators.
Especially for higain sound, for clean is not so critical.
