Anyone do it and what do you use? I want to get one for home jam space since my amps (Splawns) can get boomy in the room. I used to use an ART on my KHR100 years ago, but it was a crutch for an amp I didn't get along with. This would be just to better shape the low and low mids to my room.

I'd prefer a little half rack sized thing to just sit on top of the amp rather than full rack or a pedal that I can't easily get to the settings on top.

I´ve used the TC 1140, the TC 1220, some Rocktron unit and the Audioarts/Wheatstone. For your applications I´d go with the Boss RPQ, which definitely is vintage at this point but still gets the job done.

I've seen guys use graphic eq in the loop of their rectos for this reason. Mxr, etc.

I see an old Boss RP-10 on the bay but it looks a bit limited in what it can do. Any of those do stereo that would be even better.

Hey fella! I have a Dano graphic EQ but parametric is better for honing in on the problem frequencies.

BTW traded my DSL in for a 2010 QR last week :)

I use the FX8 para EQ in the loop and love it. Low cut to get rid of the deep mud, mid cut at 400 for hi gain chunk, boost at 400 for some lead stuff, sometimes a strategic hi gain cut around 5 & 7k to get rid of whistle.

I used an 11Rack in a similar way, as well as a Presonus EQ

I use a Mesa 5 band EQ pedal in the loop of my Recto's for shaping. PEQ's seem harder to dial in to me.

I saw that in your signature, you naughty monkey; )

I have a Rolls RPQ160 that I use in the loop and it works really well. One that looks great is the Empress ParaEQ. The Rolls is a full rack unit and the Empress is a pedal so they may not fit the bill on the size you are looking for.

-this-

-I've found that there over kill, a good EQ-(I have an old TAPCO stereo rack mount)-works the best

Eq pedals are GREAT if you know how to use them. Parametric rules all. I prefer a parametric upfront if only one available, if not on in front AND one in loop. Complete tone and voice shaping.

The Rolls looks to be more in my price range. :) I guess last resort would be the Empress but I'd like to have the knobs facing me instead of on top of the amp stack.

Have a RANE PEQ that i use for extreme settings

Looks to be pricey.

Yeah graphics are too limiting, I'm always wanting to tune a freq that isn't there.

I.ve seen demos of the Empress Para Eq with boost used like this , and it has 30 db of clean boost that can be used separately . I know it's a pedal , it's built like a tank .

That Empress pedal looks nice! Otherwise if you need a rack I recommend the Rolls. I compared it in the same sitting with a Rane parametric EQ and it was every bit as good.

I have a PQ6 that is absolutely AWESOME! But I tend to use an MXR 10 band in the loop. It hits the frequencies I want to tweak and is very easy to use.

Well I found an old Boss PQ-50 half rack for a good price so I will start there. Seems to have everything I need except the stereo outs. Otherwise it's a 4-band para eq with shelving for the highs and lows. Should work for what I need. If not, I'll look at some of the more pricey ones suggested.

My MXR 10-band is an essential part of my rig. I love it.

Good luck with the Boss!

Thanks! Don't get me wrong, a graphic EQ is a super useful tool and I feel that every guitarist should have one. I always keep my Dano mini F&S around and it has served many purposes.

I have a Danelectro Fish and Chips EQ pedal as well. Recently I've been using it to reduce the signal going into my cranked Marshall, sort of like rolling down the guitar's volume pedal. It sounds good but I can hear a little white noise when I lower all the sliders a bit.

How do I get around that without using a noise gate?
