It was retired April Wine drummer Jerry Mercer's 70th birthday party last night at Bourbon St West in Montreal. Almost everybody who's anybody in the music bizz here was there! April Wine members Brian Greenway and Breen LeBoeuf , Jimmy Clench(April Wine, Bachman Turner Overdrive), Frank Marino, Jimmy James, Jimmy Ayoub (Mahogany Rush drummer) and a ton more. There had to be 30 guitar players there! The music was non stop and Jerry played all night long! At 70 yrs old he still hits harder than most 25 yr olds! I got up a did a set. I was plugged into a BadCat annd it sounded pretty good (for that type of thing) It was really cool to see so many musiods in one room. I had a blast.

I can't believe he is 70!!!!!!!!!

April Wine was the first concert I attended. It was the Stand Back tour....I got blown up by the cannon...lol covered in hot confetti :)

Time sure flies :(

Scarey thing is when you talk to anyone that age or even older, they always say "it feels like it was yesterday" or "I blinked my eyes and my life has passed"

I've 'modeled' my hairstyle after his from the back of the Nature of the Beast album !

He was just a monster drummer and was already in his 40's when he hit his prime ....

AWESOME

He's been around forever and played with all kinds of names before April Wine including the great , late Roy Buchanan.

"Harder Faster" is just a great hard rock album from start to finish

I would have loved to meet Frank Marino. I wore out 'Tales Of The Unexpected'. Did Frank play? Was he good?

That is so true. Strangely enough, two minutes ago I was browsing a website which had a short paragraph about the album. I've posted the subject several times here, but I absolutely love that album. I still listen to it once or twice a week. It is easily in my top three of all time.

Jerry is great.

Man, those opening chords and chunky riff to "Get ready for love" were / are just the sheeot

I've known Frank for 31 yrs now. He wanted to play but he uses such thin strings and didn't have his own guitar with him. No one had anything there strung up with less than 10's so he landed up not playing. I don't know his exact guages these day but Frank use to use a 006 for an E string and the D was 018 unwound! I think the other E was a 038. I use to try his rig out in the back of Tempo studios in the late 70s and I couldn't play his guitar in tune no matter how hard I tried.
