First up, props to Pat Thrall. What an all time legend!

Next up, im trying to mimic that cool staccato delay thing he has been doing for years. Im utterly useless with delays, so can someone give me some pointers please? Ill be using my PodXT for delay, if that helps.

Sup!

Actually that delay is pretty much what EVH uses on Cathedral but instead of using volume swells Thrall picks the notes and mutes it (Like Blues saraceno and Nuno)

That's pretty much a slap back delay set really wet. Id say try a delay setting anywhere from 200-400ms with one repeat and have it set pretty wet. Should do the trick!

Thanks for the tip, just tried this and it sounds pretty much dead on. Just need to work on the right hand chops, for some reason my wrist is locking up trying to do this

Good to see some love for Pat Thrall here!

Like Gainfreak said, a delay around 300~320 would probably get you close. If anything, you'll make the mistake of picking too fast and get ahead of the repeats. Speaking of that technique, I love how Yngwie uses it in the early part of Black Star. I remember a lot of music magazines trying to transcribe that without delay. Same for Nuno's flight of the bumblebee. Trying to play it without delay would be quite hard
