we have come along way from the Line 6 pod. what amp sims are the closest to sound like an amp?

Kazrog Thermionik (unrestricted trial, purchase as packs or piecemeal) - http://kazrog.com/products/thermionik/
Get the whole suite if you're looking for versatility. Haven't found a bad sound in the whole group.

LePou's Plugins (completely free) - http://lepouplugins.blogspot.com/
I use the Lecto plugin constantly, along with the Mark series plugins from Kazrog. Get his IR loader, LeCab, for your speaker emulation. It's easy to use and has a nice UI.

After those, the typical stuff is Positive Grid's products, Amplitube, Peavey Revalver, etc...

You'll need some speaker cab IRs, which you can find all over the internet. I like RedWirez and OwnHammer stuff, but there's plenty of free options out there. Also, run an EQ plugin at the end of the chain in your DAW, set with both a high and low pass filter. Trim the fat and you'll find a much more pleasing guitar tone instantly.

TSE X50 is the closest by far. Go download it and try the demo. Ive tried them all over and over again here in the last couple months. The ones Casey said are not to far behind.

Oh yeah, I should have mentioned the TSE stuff. I use their Tubescreamer plugin on pretty much everything.

Your fucking avitar always cracks me up!

thanks. what audio interface and monitors are you using with the sims?

I was watching Glenn on YT last week and he talked about this plugin called Spark:

https://mercuriall.com/cms/details_spark

It simulates 4 Marshall amps. I downloaded the demo, the AFD sounds awesome to me, it comes with cab simulation, basic fx and boost pedal simulation included, for 99$ looks like a solid deal to me, I might get it.

S Gear is pretty cool.
I use it mostly for monitoring DI tracks.

I thought S-gear sounded pretty cool. Was messing with that before I got a reactive load

There is something missing in S-Gear. At least to my ears. It just sounds too clean or something. I tried there 15 day demo and couldn't make it work for me.

TSE is pretty awesome and I liked thermionik as well but I can't say I've found one that sounded "like the real thing".

Dude I run my Recto and reactive load through the TSE cab section and when I switch back to the TSE amp I'm surprised by how close it is.

Last time I did a head to head of what was available Overloud TH2 was the best. So TH3 is worth a look. Thermionik and Mercurial are new to me though.

Checked out the Thermionik link , looks promising . What about effects , could not find anything there ?
