Been a while since I posted a amp clip. So I just did a little playthrough with my Classic 50 head. Definitely known for it's solid clean tones in the tan pants community, but this sucker gets plenty heavy for me. I only turn the gain knob in this video. 1 o'clock is my standard setting, and then I go to 3 o'clock and finally max. I boost it with my PLX Bion Boost with the gain at 1 o'clock. I also turn on my MXR SubMachine at the end as well as a delay and Boss OC5 for a moment or two. Anyways, I'm always super pleasantly surprised every time I plug into it even though it's not that often.

I have always liked the Classic series amps. Rehearsed with a borrowed 30 watter once and owned a 50 watt 2X12 combo that I plugged into a 4X12 for a while. At the time my gain tone was coming from a Vox Tonelab running in front of the amp. Turn the master up so that the amp is loud and clean and then hammer the front with a dirt box. The EL84's bloomed quite nicely that way. Warm and fat.

Dude the tone at 2:13 is the shit! Besides the magical tone of your fingers Bubba, I wonder how much of that awesomeness is attributed to your Emperor cab too? Love the look of that cab. What is in that exactly?

I saw Candlebox back in about 95. Guitarist was playing through. Peavey Classic 100 full stack and a Dual Rectifier full stack. His tone was killer. I do remember that. Very clear and raw.

At 2:13 that's straight in with the gain at 3 o'clock. I love the Emperor cabs, but honestly mainly for the look. They are built very well and not the standard recipe for 4x12 cab building internally. Mine are the tall staggered 4x12's too. I personally think they sound a little better, but not much better than my Peavey VTM cabs. The one I mic'd is loaded with Peavey Sheffield 1200 speakers from an old 5150 cab.

Fuckin LIKE!

Dude you could do anything with that amp; metal, doom, blues, whatever. Damn good showcase, thanks for posting it!

Yeah man that amp has some Balls!

Drop B?

Great demo

Sounds great! I play this amp all the time at my local guitar store (the one there is lower wattage though I think). Peavey makes a lotta amps that are killer for the money and beat out many, if not most of, their more expensive competitors. Kinda sounds in some ways like a hot rodded Tweed to me

Hell yeah dude, Classics are super underrated amps.

Doesn't the Classic 100 run like 8 EL84's? Always thought that was wild/cool

I wonder if the little Classic 20 MH has the same tones.

this is THE amp; friends who ask me "hey what's a good amp to get into tube amps with" and my answer is always the Classic30 or 50 or upwards. The Classic30 combo - I've had about 6, maybe 7 of those amps - the first was mine, and after some simple mods to it - it became a staple at my friends recording studio. Seriously - super cheap on the CL/used market, and I've picked them up or had peeps bring them to me - I swap out the BlueMarvel for an Alnico Gold (Celestion) and re-bottle it with some nice glass - done - that's the treatment I've given every C30 and they've all gone to incredibly happy homes.

seriousy underrated and has the ability with a few small tweaks to be a toneful recording, playing or studio tool.

Alnico Gold’s are awesome and very underrated on here. Some of the best sounding speakers made today that I’ve heard. I’m mainly just a vintage guy when it comes to speakers (I don’t like current made speakers), but still use Gold’s and 20 watt Heritage Greenbacks in some of my cabs because they sound great to me. I can see the Gold’s being a great fit with this model Peavey

Yep - I'd tried a number of different cones in this particular amp (Classic30) redux....the alnico was the winner across the board for all manner of musical wants and tastes.

Great speakers for sure.

Cheers!

Man I LOVE Classic 50s! That or a VTM are my favorite amps that Peavey has ever made.

running the gold in my DRRI. Fantastic speaker!

I had 2 of the 2x12 combos, ran them in stereo with a multiFX unit. Sounded pretty tits! I also had the head. Great amps!

I knew I was gonna like this video.

Used to rehearsal with my 70's/80's rock/metal band at a place that had a few amps around. I always went for the tan Classic 50 combo (2x12 if I'm not mistaken). I'm very picky about the clean tone as well and this did it very well. But the drive tones really were no slouch and I just went in, unboosted with just 3 pedals in the loop (CE-2 Chorus, GE-7 EQ and Ibanez DE-7 Delay).

Very impressive and heavier than I have ever gotten out of a classic 50. I do find that if you crank the gain above 2 or 3 o’clock, that you loose articulation. You can hear it in the video.

Always liked the classic 30 and 50 amps. The 50s always have sounded better to me.
