Peter give update on tubes

Peter how did the KT77 sound? Also how did the distortion sound with the JJ6L6's sound?

Have you ever tried Sovtek 5881 / 6L6WGC? Soldono uses them. I have them in my Soldono Avenger 100 watt and they sound great and they are only about $43 for a quad.

I just bought some JJ6L6's to put in my VH4 cannot wait to hear. Also the TAD EL34 chinese tubes only lasted about 20 playing hours after I got the amp. Hopefully the JJ6L6's are not dark sounding.
 
I believe I had tested all tubes that available on this
planet excluding some NOS stuff.

For my taste and that´s only me, the Shuguang
EL34BSTR is the best sounding tube. We decided
to make some extra test runs to increase relaibility.

THAT`S ONLY MY OPINION !
 
I agree that the EL34BSTR sound amazing for all of the distortion channels. The cleans are not perfect but good. I am going to try the 6L6 JJ's but I think that I will be back to the EL34BSTR's in the future.

The preamp tubes that are in my VH4 are Chinese 12ax7's which say TAD. They are all selected and the V1 is the Highgrade. Are there any other brands beside the TAD that have the highgrade. The only ones I can find are TAD Higrade and they are expensive ($22 for one tube) compared to the tubes labeled chinese or ruby.

Mesa has a relabled highgrade 12ax7. It's about $20 too though. Spend a little more and get and RFT ecc83 for v1. It sounds awesome in my Herbert. Its a NOS tube so expect to pay about $40-$45 for it.

What are you suggesting as the best preamp tubes? I just got a new Herbert-are the tubes you suggest also the ones that would be installed in your amps currently?
