I turned on my herby today and it had a really nasty like transformer hum,so I changed from channel 3 to 1 and it screamed ( high squeal )at me really loud. So I switched it back to channel 3 and it played normal, but now all my power tubes are turning blue when I go from standby to on. It has never done this before.

HELP PLEASE.

Greg (H&H)

Added note when I changed to channel 1 all the blue leads on the front started flashing on and off and when I changed back to channel 3 they quit and thats when I noticed the power tubes were gloing blue.

Power tubes are always blue shining.
The amp works ?

How is the electricity at your place? Any surge, line issues? My Mesa did similar thing a few times, but turning on/off fixed things. Also blue glowing tubes is pretty much normal thing...

I know that the tubes can be blue, but compared to my other herby and einstein they are really blue. I will try the amp again today and see what happens it seemed to work fine as I tried it several times after that. It's never done that before the hum and squeal. Just scared me! My 2 herbies are my pride and joy out of everything I own  . I have been around tube amps all my life and never had anything happen like that before.

Peter. Thanks for being here I and alot of other R.T.'s really are Thankfull

Yes, it could have been a surge lets hope thats all it was.

Amp seems to be fine tried it several times today I wonder if it was a power surge we had a bad thunderstorm in the northern part of the county yesterday.

FWIW my tubes are typically blue... And I love the look of 'em in a dark environ :D

Hope this was just a hiccup.

Best,
V.
