Peter, I am quite clear on your position regarding attenuation devices (Hotplate, etc.). However, I wanted to get your opinion on placing a Volume Box into the Serial loop to add taper to the Master volume (sometimes I play late at night and need the volume to be very low). Although the MV is artfully executed, that step from 7:00 to 7:30 will still wake half the kids in my home

I've seen him personally recommend it on here. I use a volume pedal no issues at all. 10k ohm was recommended value.

Wonder why the 10k value?

Try a pedal with 10 or 22k. Send output resistor
is 4,7k so You should use a low impedance pedal.

you still have the channel volume to fine tune the master volume though....
