Peters Gryphon doing high gain.

I made a modification to the Gryphon design so that when its gain boost is used, it sounds more modern/aggressive. This is in response to people inquiring about the WarHawk over the last year. I'd considered bringing back the WarHawk but the problem is that depending on a person's point of view it might not be considered "high gain enough" for their tastes. The Chimera was supposed to replace the WarHawk but some people felt perhaps they wanted a warmer sounding high gain amp without the obvious modern aggression slant of the Chimera. The Gryphon (as of 2007) already had a bit more gain/saturation on tap than the WarHawk had but the Gryphon wasn't voiced to be as "modern". So with this mod, now the Gryphon can definitely be considered a suitable replacement for the WarHawk (as well as doing the job it always did, which makes it a very versatile design).

Here's the clip:

The pickup I used was an old JB that I put a ceramic magnet into, but it doesn't really sound like a Duncan Distortion. The closest thing it sounds like is the Dimarzio D Activator (EMG-like for smoothness, somewhat bright, strong but not "rip your face off" for output). Guitar is an Ibanez SZ320.

Preamp tubes are Sovtek 12AX7WC.

Output tubes are SED 6550.

The speaker is a Vintage 30.

The pick was a green "Tortex" Dunlop 0.88mm, with my signature wear pattern (I hate new picks).

The strings are D'Addario 9-42, and are far from new.

The cables are ones I made myself out of average parts.

The socks I wore were made in China.

More clips of this coming soon.

I think your cat got some hair on it. I definitely hear that in there. Don't think you for one second you can sneak that by with your freaking essay of random things to detract my attention from the important matters.

Never heard of this guy. Whats the scoop on him?

Named after Peter Griffin from Family Guy. Literally. The amp name suggestion came from a friend as a joke (since my company name is my surname, Peters), and I just changed the way Griffin was spelled. :)

It's one of the amps I make. I recently modified the design so that it could do more modern sounding overdrive if people want it to.

Sounds good James.

EDIT: I really like that riff.

Thanks! I'll try recording more again soon, and hopefully come up with more ideas that don't suck. :)

Wow, that sounds really good, and that riff freaking PWNZ!!!!

That sounds great!!! Are you able to engage the boost by pedal? If not, can it be modded to do so?

BTW - you forgot to mention the details on your underwear!!! :poke:

I'm confused

Forget the channel names : Just name each channel Brutal, Bruutal, Bruuutal, etc. Each additional U will reflect a gainier channel :D Yes I'll take a clean channel with one U, and the gain channel with 4 U's !

Holy balls, James. To say that thing is aggressive would be a huge understatement!

LOL

That was a nice relaxing clip. It inspired some instant lyrics. Sung in a semi cookie monster meets Rob Zombie type voice:

"Rip the balls off a thousand kittens
and eat em' for lunch
Take your sister out back, give her a whack
and tell she's been Donkey Punched.

I'll fuck anything that moves, as long as it grooves
and that includes a centipede
You know you want to try it, just can't deny it
everything goes better with weed"

Thats as far as I've gotten. Feel free to add a verse or two. Be sure to keep with the warm fuzzy theme.

The idea of the boost switch on each channel isn't to give you "footswitchable modes"; it's to give you the ability to configure each channel the way you prefer. "Footswitchable modes" are usually impractical anyway, since 1) you have to adjust your amp's other settings to make it work the best in each "mode" and 2) the differences aren't so great that it makes sense to footswitch them (and if they are, they might as well be their own channels...and go back to point #1 on that). So the channels are switchable because that makes a lot of sense; they sound quite different and there are separate controls for each channel to help with that. But as for the "modes" of each channel, sorry but no. Especially since I'm hand wiring all this stuff...I don't want to make an amp with a bloated feature set that most people don't use, but they'd be paying for anyway.

And I believe I was wearing Yves Martin boxers. :)

Good idea! :) But for now, here's how it works on my site. The channels page has the "cleanest" sounding design at the top of the page, and the "most brutal" sounding design at the bottom. It progresses that way from top to bottom.

I've heard sounds which can be considered more aggressive, though. This is my idea of the perfect blend of aggression, smoothness and warmth.
