Randy was my first guitar hero. Then, EVH. I'll never forget the day I heard of his death. I was 14, and I felt like a family member passed away. Just a gut punch. Diary of a Madman is a masterpiece.

Not the greatest, but, it is the idea. Like, can you post a similar video of a clip that your solo or anyone else that you know of is transposed to piano? Please do. Randy was a fucking monster.

To this day that first solo in Crowley is still my all time favorite guitar solo and still gives me goosebumps and chills like the first time I heard it when I was 15. Hearing it on piano in this context shows well that despite many places being just a lot of pentatonic licks it still really somehow is able to convey something beautiful and spontaneous. I gotta admit still the 2nd solo has always been a bit predicable for my taste with its more classical approach, but still sounds nice
Rhoads and Friedman really were those 2 needles in the giant haystack of all these other shredders inspired more by that more mindless noodly gobbly gook approach to leads. Some say it’s harder to compose something slower with fewer notes, but I’ve found far fewer examples of compelling music that is very fast where it tells a coherent, interesting story (in classical too). Rhoads was among the few to really do it

As brilliant as Randy was, credit needs to be given to Don Airey, whom I believe created the chord progressions within Mr. Crowley. Especially the chord foundation during the solos.

Sure. Don was 'a' driving force of that band, who got royally screwed over by Sharon and Ozzy.
But that does not take away from the leads Randy laid down.
