What’s a good humbucker to fatten/thicken up an axe with an alder body, maple neck and stainless frets? Something hot. No Afwayu. Great pup, but I already have two and wanna try something different.

BKP Holy Diver, Warpig, Dimarzio X2N, SD Parallel Axis 1, Anderson H2+, HN2, H3

Dimarzio Tone Zone..thickened up my Suhr Alder body/maple neck with stainless frets

Jim Wagner Iron Man or Dunable Big Foot. The latter has both the biggest and tightest bottom end I’ve heard in any passive pickup. The Iron Man is also tight and more midrangey and juicy and cleans up nicer, so I like the Iron Man better for single note type riffs and leads and the Big Foot for huge chugs and overall heaviness

How much hotness you need?

Schecter Apos are great for heavy metal, thick is how'd describe them

The X2N is the worst pickup I have ever played. I installed it on and off of like four guitars until I decided it was udder trash.

I like the TZ and crunch lab a lot in my ibanez prestige guitars.

I’ve got an Iron Man in a LP and I love it. Really hard to find used and I’d like to try something else out.

Another vote for the Suhr Aldrich. I really like the Arcane Luxxbucker Hot too.

Out of the BK stuff in Alder for me the Alnico BlackHawk and the Crawler work well. The Impluse is good too and worth a shot if you want a fat sounding pickup that has big punchy bass and low mids ... Also mentioned by others the Holy Diver and Warpig might be a good fit too. I find the Nailbomb not great in Alder though , seems to like Mahogany more.

WarPigs are likely overkill.
What kinda amp you running?? Key component missing before we start offering suggestions.

What did you not like about the X2N? I've been curious about trying one. Any chance you could compare it to the Duncan Distortion, Black Winter, or Dimebucker?

I've always been under the impression the X2N is more bright and cutting rather than fat, but then again, I have no first-hand experience with one.

High gain beasts, bro! What other kind is there? :D KSR Ares, Friedman KS JMP, Ceriatone Yeti, 5153 50 mostly....

I haven't found a guitar bright enough to balance out the muddiness of the Tone Zone or Warpig, personally. YMMV. Personally, I think the Dimarzio Breed is the best thick-sounding pickup for bright guitars.
