So I have an LP standard with Suhr Aldrich pups in it. My local guitar tech recently installed coil taps and the guitar is so versatile now that I can’t put it down.

I also have a 2002 57 RI LP Custom Black Beauty. I know I want coil taps in it now also. It has stocks pups in it. I was thinking a Duncan Jazz in the neck ( I love that pickup) and a BK VH2 in the bridge. I have no experience with BK but I like the clips and reviews of theVHII. I’m also not sure how a Jazz will fair in the neck of an LP.

I know it’s all opinion.....but I would love to hear thoughts on this. All I know for sure is that I want the coil splits. Everything is on the table as far as pups go.

Just a thought, if you love the Aldrichs why not do them again ?

Not a bad idea and I have thought about it but I would prefer some variety.

IMO it's hard to find humbuckers that sound great when split, usually I do series/parallel instead, so if you dig the Aldrichs split that's half the battle, again IMO.

Installed the VHII pickups in my LP and now Im wondering about reinstalling my burstbuckers. The VHII pups sound a bit harsh/trebly to my ears.

The bk crawler looks cool on paper. Seems in the Aldrich realm. I’ve been doing too much reading on pickups lately. ...

depends on the music you play and what you are looking for in a pup.
if ur looking for the vintage tone I would say get a WCR darkburst or crossroads. If you like more of a modern tone thats big and fat I would go with the BK rebel yell in the bridge.Or a Motor city Hot head

I recently put a jalen 78 in my explorer and love it.It blows the SD 78 into the weeds

All these are bridge pup suggestions. I've yet to find a neck pup I like

I’m pretty solid about what I like for the metal stuff I play.(even tho I’m soldering a Bkp right now), for the neck, I love a ‘59 bridge in the neck, ala dime. Just kills.

Maybe check out Fishman Fluence Classics? I stumbled onto these vid looking for VH tones for my Kemper. All I know is they don't sound the same with my guitars, so his pickups are playing a big part of the tone.

WCR Filmores remind me of an Aldrich but I like them much more. Bareknuckles are great for clarity but they do lack ooomph.
I did not like their high output offerings I tried. Warpigs(ceramic and A5), Juggernauts, or Aftermaths.

Have you tried the WCR Murkat or know how that would compare to the Fillmore?

I have not tried the Murkat.

I may sound like the minority here, but a good old Duncan Custom always works for me!

I have not tried the Murkat.
I talked to Jim and he said the Murkat is the same as the Fillmore, but just F-Spaced for Floyd Rose type guitars and 2 rows of adjustable pole pieces. I decided to order the Murkat since it’s only $15 more than the Fillmore

Dimarzio Super Distortion's sound killer in Les Paul's, that's what i have in my Edwards and a 36th anniversary in the neck.

Yeah, me, too. Plus, parallel is still hum-cancelling.

I've liked a few with the variable coil-taps, basically putting either a resistor or a pot between the coil junction and ground. Kind of a best of both worlds solution... but I still prefer series-parallel.

The BKP Crawler is one of my favorite BKPs. It's hot, but not too hot, still has tons of clarity, nice and thick but not muddy.

I've got a Rebel Yell in the bridge of a '57 RI LPC. It's the sound I always heard in my head from a black LPC. I paired it with a Stormy Monday neck. Just perfect for my tastes. :) Of course, YMMV.

I've been really curious about WCRs lately. The Fillmore and the Murkat are probably on the top of my list.

I love BKPs, but I'm not a huge fan of their high output ceramics, either. To be fair, I'm not typically a fan of anyone's ceramics, but I agree that the Juggernauts, Aftermaths, or C-Pig aren't that interesting to me. I've used an A-Pig and thought it was OK, but just didn't have the oomph, cut, or clarity of their A-Bomb for me. I didn't much care for the C-Bomb, either.

I was thinking the VHII bc it was a vintage style pickup. I’m not really looking for the VH sound per se.

That being said the Custom 78 and Jalen pickup sound amazing would sound great in one of my superstrats. The Fishman Fluence Classics seem awesome as well. I’ve used the Super Distortion before and it’s great but not the sound I’m looking for.

I’m more looking for a set of humbuckers that can be coil split and sound appropriate in a Les Paul. I do like the Aldrich pups as I already have them in another LP. Maybe that is the answer ? I will look into the Muskrat and BK Crawler as well.

I am not into modern metal. I love old school metal like Priest and Maiden and the 80s stuff or NWOBHM. I spend most of my time working on scales, solo technique and just about anything that is shred but I don’t like actual face value shred. I like Neil Zaza, Andy Timmons, SRV, Guthrie and Hendrix. So I like a bluesy tone but I like to rip as well.

Thanks for the recommendations so far ! Very helpful !

bkp rebel yells are great in a lpc. I didn't really like them, even in a knaggs kenai, but in a les paul custom they rock!! but, with rebel yells, you have to get the height just right.
