Picked it up today - yeah, messy house in the picture, but oh well...

Sounds fantastic with the stock heads* and no "modifications" (moongell, tape, etc) - can't wait until I slap on the heads I normally use ;)

It literally has "that" sound to it - Maple 4-ply on the outside, with 2 plies walnut on the inside - man, what a killer combo. The shells are THIN too. The bass drum shell is about 1.5x thicker (eyeball), not sure on the snare, didn't look.

I'm just hating that I don't have my cymbals with me - they're at the bass players house with my M-Birch...lol

Oh well, I can play Beautiful People, and whatever other tribal like stuff I can think of - lol.

*granted, the stock heads are Remo Emperor and Remo Ambassador, but they do look like b-stock versions of the heads - that or Remo has slacked on quality control since last I used them (10+ years ago)

I really like Mapex drums. I used to rehearse a lot at a spot here in Seattle that had equipped rooms and most of the relatively inexpensive Mapex kits they have always sounded great.

Nice kit Jeff, I like the Mapex stuff and I have really thought of getting a kit and getting some drum chops back.
