... it's coloring the sound too goddamn much..... It makes the amp feel "compressed"..... I've tried serial and parallel, and STILL......

What I like about it is that it has tons of great fx (flange, chorus, delay, etc etc..) and I mostly use this fx in the clean channel, where the coloring of the sound isn't obvious. So I was thinking about using it in ch.1, making a midi patch for the insert in ch.1 with the fx I need for a given song (if I need chorus+delay+whatever) and turn it off once the part or the song it's over.

Then getting a Delay pedal to put in the loop for my normal stuff.

Now, what delay pedal...... I've been looking into the T.C. Electronics Nova Delay, seems cool, although a bit pricey (200 +).... I can buy a used TC Elec. G-Major for 200 something, so maybe that's a better route, but I'm afraid it might color the sound too.

I'm not into fx. that much (only Delay) that's why I wanted to stay with the ME-50 for those rare ocassions when I do need something else, and it's basically on ch.1. Also the ME-50 has od pedals that sound very good to either boost or use in ch.1

I can recommend a Rocktron Intellifex to you. Nice effects and no problem with coloring the amp tone when you use it in the parallel loop. You can get one of those for 120€ and in my opinion it's worth every cent.

alright man, I'll give those a look.

what Fx does it have?

It has only basic effects but that was always more than enough for me. It has a Hush (noisegate), reverb, delay, chorus & pitch shifter. Not much but all very good. Also a very reliable and well build unit.

You can check http://www.rocktron.com support section for the manual.

it's more than enough for me too.

How's the noisegate? works well? I have a P90 guitar that could be a bit noisy at high volumes/hi gain

I haven't dealt with that so far. I used to have a separate Rocktron Hush years ago which I didn't like that much and since the VH4 isn't noisy at all I never tried to use it. I also use the Intellifex in the parallel loop so I can't use it there.

I really like my Intellifex. I only use reverb but the delays sound great, too.
I can hear a little coloration, though. Problem is, my VOX has only a serial loop (non-footswitchable) in which all my delay stompboxes sound far better than in front of the amp. That's why I have tone coloration. But it's not that bad. The long cable runs from the amp's send to the fx board and back to the return are a factor as well.

If you only use delay, why don't you get a Nova Delay? It's small and sounds good. And you have tap tempo. If you really need the best in sound, get an Eventide Time Factor. It's awesome.

I like stompboxes as tweaking sounds on stage is easy. If I could take only one delay with me, I'd take my TC Vintage Delay, just because it's easy to use, sounds great and has tap tempo.

If you wanna get a little more fancy than the Intellifex, check out the Rocktron Xpression. :)
