While in St louis I went to a store called Eddies Guitars that had some nice stuff and some cool guys that worked there. Well, the guy that helped me out was nice but he was the only one I dealt with... anyway played a CA OD50 classic, Budda SD45, and a Bruno Cowtipper.

OD50- One of the best cleans on a channel switcher. Warm, punchy, with nice chime. Very nice! On the OD side... I wasnt impressed at all. A bit flubby in the low end and a bit of a ratty tone. Was open but the tone didnt have good base to start with IMHO. Maybe in a band at full bore it might work better but just sitting there playing about about half band level loudness it wasnt a good tone at all IMHO.

SD45- Very nice clean. Not as nice as the OD but very usable. The OD side was really good. Full and harmonicaly rich. Nice mids, good punch, really good cutting top end that wasnt raspy. Sucker gets loud quick! If I was going to buy a new head it would be this one.

Bruno Cowtipper 22 1x12 combo- I walked out with this one. Awsome clean amp with the best reverb Ive heard in an amp. Nice chimey top end with full body. Real 3D sounding and killed the OD50's clean. Takes pedals like a whore.

Ive now got it set up next my Splawn modded 1987xl that runs through my Reinhardt slant 2x12. With an A/B switch I got a happening little rig. Great Marshall rhythm and lead tones with the 1987xl and the best Fender blackface tones coming from the Bruno. The rig is really portable too with the Rheinhardt being light but big sounding for a 2x12 and the 1987 only being a 50 watter its not bad at all weight and size wis. The Bruno is really light for its size too. Got my board all wired up so set is real easy.

Holy Cow!

None of my bidness, but, don't those Bruno amps cost thousands??!!

Nice choice!

Yeah they aint cheap but I tried several Fender Twin reissues, Bassman's, a Genz Benz Black Pearl, etc to try to get the tone I wanted at a lower price but couldnt find what I was looking for until I plugged into the Bruno. Could have done better used I guess but the wife was wanting a 65 reissue Fender strat so we did really good on a package deal right there on the spot.

I bought my VHT CLX from Nathan Eddie's Guitars. Cool guy to work with.

Cool reviews!

File it under "you get what you pay for..."

Hey Todd, I think you probably dealt with Conrad, he's the older of the guys there. I heard you bought your wife a nice gift also! Nice to meet you man...

Yep that his name! Very cool guy. Nice to meet you too man. I wish we had gotten to chat a bit longer. Hope your gig went well. Yeah I got my wife something nice. How do you think I got the Cowtipper? Gotta smooze the better half a bit somethimes. Doesnt hurt that what she wanted was a really cool USA 62 reissue sunburst Fender strat that I get to strum on sometimes. Its cool having a wife with some of the same hobbies. Anyway her learning to play is going really well and she picks up on stuff fast. I wouldnt be surprised if she's playing better than me here real soon.

I played the Tipper some more today and I love this thing! For a 22watt 1x12 this thing sounds huge huge huge. Best clean amp Ive ever heard and well worth every penny I spent. Also the reverb is just spot on gorgeous.

The cowtipper is just a gorgeous sounding clean amp. I bought myself something nice there as well but need to sell it. I just picked up a prs sc245 as well as an egnater mod 50 so something has to go. Unfortunately for me, my wife doesn't play guitar! Anyone looking for a brand new Bogner XTC with about three hours on it?

Did you get the Bogner that day? XTC's are cool but I think you did better getting the Mod50.

Ejecta- How loud is the 22? When does it breakup? It sounds like a great recording and home use amp, but maybe not loud enough for clubs?
I'm looking into one of these if the cleans are better than the CAA OD50. I got in a CAA OD100SE last month and thought the same as you...great cleans and terrible gain channel. It went back to the store the next day. Tried a Fender Twin Reissue last week and the tone was not that good as well. Bruno sounding real good right now.

I find it to be splenty loud for a gig IMHO. However I dont know how loud you play at gigs so that can be a subjective thing. The 22 does break up a tiny bit at a higher volume and a little more with a hot pickup but my pickups arent really hotter until I turn on the mid boost on my Tyler. If volume and clean headroom are a real concern Id get the Cowtipper 35. That said, Im a big fan of 6V6's over the 6L6's for cleans and I like a touch of dirt in my clean. So I was willing to give up a bit of volume and clean head room and get the 22. Also keep in mind if the amp breaks up a bit I just back of my volume knob a touch or switch to single coil and I get as clean as you want.

I too had the same opinion of the Reissue Twins. On the CAE OD amps, Im really wondering why there is anyone liking the distortion side of those amps. To each his own I guess but I just thought it was really not that good.

Ah, thanks...Yea,I am looking for really clean at club volumes, and I still want lower wattage....So the 35 is probably the ticket.
