Hello, I´m Michal from Czech Republic , hello here :)
I own VH4 , bought 2006 before christmas in Schmidt musicstore in Frankfurt am Main...
... I love it, superb amp... :)
... but I think it have a hum or buzz problem... I can´t remember how noisy was this hum, when I bought it, but I think that lower ( in normal) or no one, cause as far as two last months this hum starts beeing annoying (bothering) to me...
The hum can be heared on firs clean channel, and I think it´s just not normal for the clean channel to... it´s too noisy to me..
the second channel.. here is the hum lower than on the first channel, what suprises me, cause I thought, that it should bee noisy than on the first, because of bigger gain .. this hum is lowest on the amp.. and only on this channel I think, it´s in normal...
but on the third channel its much bigger, than on the first and on second, and on the fourth, it´s the biggist... on these third and fourth channels, it´s too much annoying (bothering) and to me the hum is to loud...
...when the mute is on.. no hum is there

I own the vintage amp Orange OR120 2x12 combo version...a had a few problems with it, so I took it to one of our amp manufactures here in Prague to have look at it to check it, and I asked on my problem with my VH4 too.. He told me, to take it with to him, when I will come back for my Orange, that he will hear to that hum, so I did it today... He said, that he think that hum is too big too and that it shouldn´t bee so noisy in his opinion... At first he only thought, that it could do some of the pramp tubes, so he checked only them ( he tryed to pull out some of them when the amp was on, whether the hum will be gone, only the one everytime, but it didn´t ,the hum stayed there everytime he pulled out one of the preamp tubes. By the way, when he did it, I stayed stareing and looking with mouth open, cause I don´t know about electrotech things with amps, but this dooing by him with premp tubes scared me. It looks such to brutal to me to do it this way to my loved VH :) , but maybe he knew what to do, so I leaved him to do...) ... so he thought that they are all right and he told me, that it´s maybe something inside the amp, and to check it, he needs to leave my VH there and he wil look inside of it... so I told him, that I will come back if it will be urgent for me, cause.. the amp plays all right.. but only that hum is there , and I don´t want to open it and check it by someone who don´t know this amp as well until it will be urgent... it´s not the cheapest amp and I love it so much ... so I´m afraid of it  :)

Can anyone please help me and advise me what to do? thanks a lot I´m little scared :scared:

I have the same exact problem although my VH4 is probably a 2003. I'm not sure when the hum started 'cause I just recently noticed it. I keep my amp at my band rehearsal's location, so I don't play it everyday. It's only been about 6 months since both my preamp and power amp tubes were replaced with JJs. Since the hum started, I've started purchasing a variety of brands of new stock 12AX7s and going thru v1-v4 trying to eliminate the excessive noise but with no luck. I'm still waiting for delivery of some others. Like you said, the hum increases with each channel 2 thru 4 (my clean is ok). The noise is definitely from the preamp section because when I hook up an external preamp thru the serial return loop, the noise is not present. when I do it thru the parallel loop, the hum is still there. I'm at a loss of what to do other than trying a Rocktron Super Hush C in the serial efx loop, but I don't want to give up my programmable parallel efx loop for my digital efx processor. The hum drives me crazy when I'm not playing!

I understand that with paralel FX loop ... I don´t want to use some other equipment to eliminate the hum, that hum shouldn´t be there and my bigist problem is, that when i have on 4 channel, where hum is the biggest and really very loud, and I turn the signal down only on my guitar with volume pot, the hum stayes there and thats so bad, because I wanna have be quite in that time and there is the hum.. so now I must everytime switch to another channel or on mute  ... yeh ´´ The hum drives me crazy when I'm not playing! too ´´ .. I don´t know what to do... :( :aww:

... please help anybody :scared:

If the VH4 preamp has to much hum, it´s necessary
to check the humtrimmer inside. It´s a 100 ohm trimmer
located close to the input wire.

Some power tube short can destroy the trimmer,
so please replace it and adjust it to the lowest
hum on channel 4.

Thanks

Hi Peter,
I have problem to find here in Czech someone who have enough experience with Diezel amps. No authorized Diezel tech here and I´m a bit worried, to let someone here to check my VH4. Someone could do the bad work...

I´d like to ask you, if it would be possible, to send my VH4 to Bad Steben to check and restore it by yours. Bad Steben is not so far away where I live. I´m sorry to bothering you, I know you are so busy, but it would be so helpfull for me... I really don´t konow what to do...

Thanks a lot for Your reply, Best Regards, Michal

Hi Peter..
I contacted Peter Stapfer about a week and half ago to let him know about my problem too, because we were in contact about half year ago too ... in my ask to advise about your cabs and he recommend me to come to Bad Steben to try them out there...
Today he wrote me, that he resended my email to him to you and that to solve hum problem will take maybe only for few minutes... so would it be possible to do all at once by my visit in Bad Steben, it would be much better and cheaper for me to come by car than sending VH4 before by DHL or so, and I think, it will be safer for tubes too, thanks a lot...
my email is Michal.borecky []centrum.cz
( I am not sure if your is peter[]diezelamplification.com or peterdiezel []diezelamplification.com so I wrote you again here on this forum :) )

Thanks a lot, All the best, Michal
