Please tell me about the Bogner 412 cabinets?

I just love my Bogner 212OS cabinet, I use it in semi open back form. My current favorite 212 cab. So much so that I have stopped thinking about other 212s and just use all my amps with this cabinet. I am using a V30/CL-80 mix, great tones!

My other cabs are a THD smaller 212 cabinet and a decent sized 112 with an EVM12L.

I want to get a great 412 cabinet to round out my collection and tones. Since I had great luck with the Bogner I am leaning toward the Bogner 412. I see they also make a smaller open back 412? Anyone know about this one and is it semi open back or fully open? However, if I want the true 412 vibe, I might just go full on 412 closed back. I am thinking a mix of Greenbacks and G12H-30s (I'll find older broken in ones).

What is the weight of their 412? I know the shipping weight is like 100 lbs with packing materials so I am thinking in the upper 80s.

It will be tough moving it, but there is just something about playing through a good 412.

Thanks for any input!

I've got a rear loaded straight 4x12. I swapped out the V30's with Scumbacks. They're top notch built cabinets for sure. They're slightly darker sounding and a little heavier than a Marshall 1960B. They do sound great though.

They are good stuff. They weight about 98lbs, as opposed to a Marshall that weighs around 80/85 lbs with comparable speakers. Not that it makes the cab sound or handle better. But there is a weight difference between the two.

The 20thA cab is wickedly throaty and gnarling...

The UberKab is vicious and pounds...

They're good :D

So is the 20thA cab or any Bogner cab a lot better sounding than a Marshall cab you guys think? I already have the matching 212 with my Shiva and was going to be getting a matching 212 for my soon to be Splawn Streetrod. With that in mind, I thought of getting a Bogner 412 with Greenbacks but might just get something lighter and get maybe an old Marsahall with Greenbacks or something else lighter. Maybe a Swanson or Splawn 412.

I own both and can't say one sounds better than the other. Different, yes. You can't go wrong with either. You'll hear a bigger difference with different speakers than you will between the two cabinets. With the right speakers in each, I can get them to sound very close to each other.

If you buy one you wont regret it. If you can find one in good shape on the used market and don't abuse it (i.e. get a tuki cover for it if you take it out), then you will definitely get your money back out of it if you choose to sell it down the road. The nice thing about the cabs is that they are internally wired with 10 ga speaker wire and that they have a plywood back, as opposed the the Marshall with has a chipboard back and is wired with pretty skimpy internal wiring. Also, many of the Marshall cabs have that impedance switching circuit board that intercepts the signal, and the Bogner does not, it is wired straight through to the speakers with a fixed impedance setting.

Used Bogner in good condition - $650/$750

Used Marshall in good condition - $300/$450

Interesting, thanks bro......that might save me some money. If you can get your Marshall 412 sounding pretty close to the Bogner, that says a lot. I know my buddy who is a tone hound, recently picked up a used Marshall 1960a and said it sounds fantastic, as good as anything he owns with a real wood back. I would like to load one with Greenbacks. But I might just get a great 212 cab like a Mojo or Stone Age and fill it with Celestion Lynchbacks for the Greenback vibe in a 212! Currenly my biggest cab is a Bogner OS212.

I am tempted because there is a young guy near me that bought a Marshall 1960b 10 years ago and let it sit in his parents house when he went to college and never used it, mint shape for $375. I could grab it and toss in some used Greenbacks.

My other thought is find a used Splawn 412 since they are supposed to be killer and like $425 used.

Honestly, most times I would just take out my 212s so the 412 would not get a ton of use, so why spend a fortune!

One thing I know I would want is the Marshall 1960b (if I got this one) with the slightly tilted front baffle. Ever notice some of the straight cabs have a slight tilt up of the baffle like the Bogners?

I am thinking either used Marshall 1960, Mesa Stiletto cab or Bogner...

What type of wire they use in the Marshalls? Thin and cheap?

Yea, that's an easy fix though. The Bogners are overkill with the 10 ga. wire that's bitch to solder. You pretty much need a torch.

I will be in the market for a 4x12 straight around end of year. I was wanting to get a Bogner 4x12, but after reading this wondering if I should pick up a less expensive Marshall 4x12 locally...... I have heard some great Marshall cabinets, but they were older ones. I have not heard any of the newer ones. I had 2 Mesa 4x12 traditional cabinets with V30s, they seemed like really good cabinets. This would be used with a Shiva 20th btw, most likely with 6550's per some advice from some cool guys on the forum!!

So final say? Is the Bogner cabinet not worth the extra dough?

Just received my Uberkab yesterday. Slightly smaller than my other cabs (Krank, Marshall, Mills, Recto). Plugged into my Uberschall and it just absolutely was heaven. I mean, I really can't put into words how amazing it sounded. Full, deep, tight bass response, sizzling highs without being harsh. VERY 3D sounding. I mean, these two were meant to be together. I found myself literally losing track of time and jammed for at least 20 mins which seemed like 2.

Also tried it with my Bogner XTC and Peavey 6505+ and it was almost as impressive as the Uber.

Cabs are just like heads, all have a slightly different flavor. Here's my breakdown of what I own

Uberkab - Godlike paired with Uberschall, tight, focused, 3D sounding. Sweet top end grind
Marshall 1960B Vintage 30s - Absolutely brutal with any high gain head, slight brighter and tons of mid range.
Mesa 212 Recto - rich full sound with any Mesa head, can sometimes sound muffled, not as aggresive as Uberkab
Krank 412 - LOVE the original Eminence V12s. Also pairs very nicely with Uberschall, very different, more jagged edge sounding than Celestions, can sound hollow with the wrong head
Mills 412 - Very similar to the Uberkab, not as 3D. Very tight, almost too tight. Pairs good with almost any amp.

All of these cabs are top notch and all are a long way from sucking. Can't go wrong with any of them.

I thought the ubercab was an OC cabinet? should be larger than a 1960B
