Hey everyone,

So one thing I've learned about Diezels is that the preamps between the VH4, Einstein and Herbert are very similar; the main things separating them into classes are mainly features, if not a little shift in voicing. Regardless of amp model, I'm fairly convinced that settings from amp to amp would work. For example, one persons setting on a VH4's 3rd channel would translate well to another person's Einstein's Mega mode.

So to kick things off here is Adam Jones' settings, as seen in the well documented Tool eBay auction. Allegedly, the taped positions are Jones', and they really DO bring out that badass mid-strong crunch that is omnipresent in all Tool recordings.

I am currently using these settings on ch. 1 Mega and ch. 2, which (on ch. 1) makes for a great semi-clean to medium crunch (with some volume knob manipulation). When ch. 1 is boosted, it cops some pretty accurate JonezTonez.
Switching from Ch 1 to Ch2 is rather seamless in terms of volume, with Ch2 offering a bit more gain and a different low end response.

I've found that using the same settings on Ch1 and 2 (on my Einstein 50) make channel switching much easier to deal with, especially live. Rolling down the volume really cleans up the signal, whereas using a super-clean tone (clean mode, ch. 1) makes for a little bit of an experiment in order to get everything nice and even.

So share and share alike! I'd like to see what everyone else is doing Gain and EQ-wise with their amps! You really can NOT dial in a bad sound on these puppies, and chances are, if you've got a Herbert even, someone's Einstein 50 settings would sound great on it!

You will have to get up on Channel 3 for some Jones Tones.....he don't do any channel switching either.

Channel 3 on the VH4 I run: Bass 2:00, Mids off-9:00, Treb: 2:00, Vol 12:00, Gain 1:00, Deep 1:00, Pres: 3:00 and Master depending on where I am. I like to play mine with the mids scooped but the presence and treble up for cutting. No pedals for boost or distortion. Running a DD3 delay, BF2 flanger, Dunlop wah in front of the amp, in that order.

But, that was pre-Herbert. The VH4 is sitting right here behind me and just underneath the Herbert, but it isn't even plugged in.
