Hi All,

I am considering purchasing an Einstein head on the recommendation of Herbietheraddorklift and just had a few questions:

1) How easy is it to mod the footswitch to be able to switch between the different modes on channel 1? Has anyone done this? What parts would I need and has any experienced any issues after doing this?

2) Reverb, I presume is not an option in any way shape or form on the head bar purchasing a seperate reverb pedal and running it in the loop?

3) What's the warranty like on the Herbert? If for example, I bought a used Einstein, is the warranty transferable to me and if so how long are the warranties.

Thanks in advance.

Hello fastboy :D

You'll find that all of your questions WILL have been asked and answered before, I did ;)

Thanks for that and yes, I started reading and started to see answers already.....

Mind you, that's what I call German efficiency a response in 5 mins flat !!!!!!

Off to try that combo tomorrow in GAK tomorrow and then that will help me decide if the Einstein is for me (really want a head though and not a combo)

I take it you've been Youtube-ing? They're lovely sounding amps, really are.

The combo has built-in reverb though, doesn't it? Would eliminate the nedd for another fx unit, plus you could always plug the combo into a 2x12 or 4x12 if you wanted to...

Yes, I've been youtubing and I am liking what I am hearing so far..... However, nothing makes up for an in the flesh test as I listen to MK50's on youtube and they don't sound that great but having played one in the flesh, they sound amazing driven.

Despite the combo having reverb, I'd still rather have a head as reverb can easily be sorted with a pedal (I would gain a space on my pedlabord as I could loose my clean boost pedal in the loop for extra volume due to the 2 masters on the Einstein). Would need to make some space for an extra pedal however, if going down the DIY switching pedal route if I like the amp, however, I suspect that means I can loose one of my 2 drive pedals as a result of being able to switch clean modes.

I have a 4x12 for gigs and a 2x12 for rehearsals which leaves me thinking a combo would be too big to lug around on top of other stuff just for the reverb when a head probably suits my needs better particularly as I've never been a fan of 1x12's.

We shall see what tomorrow brings.

Other amps I am also considering are a:

Cornford MK50 (great drive but no real clean without resorting to a MK50 II which is well out of budget)

VHT 50ST (nice sounding cleans but can't find a driven clip with sufficient quality to hear what it's really like in channel 2).

I might also have a look at the EVH 5150 III whilst I am down at GAK, however, I have a very strong suspicion I am not going to like it as it sounds very fizzy and trebly on the drive settings and the "clean" sound sounds to me more like a mild drive sound....
