Power tube recommendations for Tourmaster 4212 Combo

What does everybody recommend for power tubes for a Tourmaster?

I'm a "clean headroom with lots of output" kind of guy. Not into heavy metal power tube distortion too much, but will to experiment. Got GT 6L6's in there now.

Bad thing is that you can't use the power scaling w/ 6550s

I'd recommend GTE34L's for the EL34s and either NOS Jan Philips 6L6s or Tung Sol 5881s for the 5881s.

Those are my personal favorites of EL34s and 6L6s. Either Tung Sol 6550s or Svetlana 6550s are the best 6550s in my honest opinion.

It doesn't take EL-34's.

This is odd- Two new threads I have started are set to send me notification of replies, but they haven't. Anyone else having this problem?

Now I am getting them but some earlier posting that were there aren't there any more.

Doug's Tubes is recommending Ruby or Penta Labs KT66's. Anybody know anything about them?

Len. You can put any tube in the Tourmaster but you will not be able to use the power scaling. The only tubes that work w/ the power scaling are 5881s. I distinctly remember Jeff saying that.

So if you want to try another type of tubes, you would need to set the power scaling at full for every channel. If you use things like KT66, KT77, EL34s, 6550s, KT88s, you'll need to set the power scalling at full.

Ask Jeff / Bruce if KT66s will work w/ power scaling. I know KT66s are acceptable to use in a lot of 6L6 Fender amps as an alternative, but I'm not sure they will work as expected w/ power scaling. Only Jeff / Bruce would know that.

I should have thought of that- Since I can bias it, of course it will take it. Still, the manual says that they must be of the "5881/6L6/KT66 type."
