Pre 2000 and post 2000 XTC info

Does anyone have a mid to late XTC and a post 2000? I have a friend that has a 97 and it sounds a lot different than the 3 XTC's Ive owned. He has said that the insides of his amp are quite a bit different then the new models. I know about the 2004 gain mod. Did they change the boards comepletly? Thanks for any info.
 
White chassis 101b XTCs with cab switching are known to not sound as good as newer black chassis models.

Yes, Ive owned one and it seemed lifeless next to the other XTC's.
