I'm having problems with my Egnater Renegade head. It's making a high pitched noise like a mild feed back. I bought this head used and it did't have the covers over the pre amp tubes. I replaced the preamp tubes and after still having the same issue I swapped the power tubes with my other Renegade not solving the problem. Does anybody know if this could cause this problem not having the shields over the tubes. HELP!

Take the covers from your other amp and put them on the trouble amp and you might have your answer. ;)

Assuming you've ruled out external causes, A steady squeal that isn't guitar-related feedback is likely oscillation, and could be due to a number of things from lead dress to a failed/failing component. I would suspect a faulty electrolytic cap, possibly in the preamp B+ supply, but not necessarily.

The lack of tube shields should not cause that problem.

not necessarily true. i currently have a microphonic RFT in V1 of my tourmaster that just sounds too good to get rid of....how do i know its micro? without the tube shield on it, it squeals like a piggie!

the spring holds it down from vibrating enough that it doesnt squeal when the shield is in place.

i'd suggest starting with a spare 12ax7 and going down the line in your amp (use one of the 12ax7's from your other renegade) and see if this is a problem.

if not, report back.
