I've tried doing some research on what preamp tubes to try out before heading into the recording studio and still am not quite sure if what i've picked out will optimal > > >

Right now i've got a diezel vh4 with EL34 SED tubes that are a bit over a year old [not sure if these should be replaced]

And I am confused as to which TAD 7025's I should be getting in preamp locations V1 & V2

Would purchasing 2 of these work ? http://thetubestore.com/tad7025s.html

Also do I put these in V3-7 ? http://thetubestore.com/chinese12ax7.html

Thanks a mil

Papa recommended to me to use Ruby 12AX7AC5 HG+ if I remember correctly.

Although Poppa has recommended the Ruby's, there's a looooooooooong lineage of Diezel users that have been EXTREMELY happy with the set up you're discussing. I did a huge review of the TAD7025S pre's in my VH4S, but found that the 12AX7B's or C's were the money in all the other slots. I think you'll be pretty stoked with the punch and sizzle this set up with get you. Furthermore, Jon at thetubestore is a solid cat, knows his glass, and has decent prices!! TAD7025S aren't cheap. Chinese/Shuguang 12AX7B's and C's are pretty inexpensive; consistent; reliable; and also, at least to my eards, offer a great gain structure overall.

I'd follow your original design and go with 2xTAD and the rest Chinese/Shuguang :D

Peace,
V.

IMO these are a rip-off. In fact TAD are generally a rip-off.
I'd seriously consider the Ruby 12AX7AC5 HG+.

Sounds good Ventura .... I think i'm going to go with the TAD's in the first two positions, have the order in and will post the likes , etc.

Right now my sound is a bit too grainy , I'm really into a 'clean' 'dry' distortion - - and can get this I feel if the amp is semi-cranked ... at low volumes it sounds like mush

Has anyone played an EL34 SED ever tried the Gold Lion KT77's ? I wonder if that would be a good direction to go as I want a more 'clean' 'dry' distortion with my setup.

Hoven

KT77's http://thetubestore.com/goldlionkt77.html
< the review on their website says those that have tried the EL34 SED liked the KT77's better ... Again its a website and they can type anything so I'd like to hear from some on RIg Talk Etc>

Clean and Dry distortion will come with the use of 6550's in the power section, maybe TAD7025S in V1 & V2, and then Chinese/Shugaung 12AX7B's or C's in the rest of the sockets. SED =C= 6550's are the nicest sounding as opinde by many of us here on RT.

Just give it a shot - if the TAD's don't work out, you can always hold on to them for use in another amp. I've gone all Chinese/Shuguang in my VH4S and it simply hauls ass like a freightrain, and ya, 40mA biased 6550's in the power section

Peace,
V.

I will be at Musikmesse in Frankfurt in April. Looking forward to seeing some of the guys and a few beers with Peter D and Peter S. Germany just plain rocks in general. Spent a couple weeks there last summer. The people are awesome, the beer is plentiful, the food is great and the hospitality makes you want to go back for more. The blonde haired, blue eyed ladies are yummy too....
