Hey All;

Getting a Diezel again. I found the Einstein works best for me (having tried the VH4 and having owned the Einy and the Herbert), so that's the one. I found a clip on youtube of a guy playing one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jw1kv36iHOc , and he said he changed out the preamp tubes to get this incredible sound, a reall ZZ Top kind of thing, but fatter and just bad ass. Does anyone have any suggestions for preamp tubes that will kind of smooth things out a little on the Einy?

Thanks.

JT

Actually, I did post a message to him, but I am hoping a few people on this forum would have some input, as I wanted a consensus among at least a few users of the amp.

I bet it has a lot to do with the cab, uses same cab most of the time, prob some well broken in g12h30s, man that clip sounded awesome though, sorry i always forget the obvious, dudes a great player as well!!

He pops into this Forum from time to time.

I bet a good part of that awesome, fat tone is the pickup he is using.

I can't see why you wouldn't be able to get that out of the einstein with the right cab & guitar & stock tubes. If that mid grind is what is appealing to you, you might wanna try SED34s.

I love the Einstein stock, but that tone he got, damn! I am going to use it with G12h30 speakers in a Diezel 4 x 12 cab, with Historic Les Pauls. I am going for more of a classic rock thing, with the occasional old metal kind of vibe. I have used a million amps, but love the sound of the Einstein, so I am going back to it.

I just heard that guys sound and it blew my mind, so I figured someone on here had probably done some experimenting with the preamp tubes and may've had some similar results. I'll research it and try experimenting on my own as soon as the amp arrives.

I think a lot of it is due to the G12H30 Heritage speakers. The info on the clip says those are the speakers in the cab. I have one in my 2x12 and love it. Note that there are 2 versions of the G12H30. The "Heritage" version is labeled as such and has a lower resonant frequency than the standard version, 55Hz vs. 70Hz, or something around there.

There are many ways to change the tone one gets from an amp.
I have an Einstein combo and left it dead stock for about 6 months.
It came with a V-30 speaker. I added a Weber Beam Blocker, changed the pre amp tubes to NOS Mullards from the 1960's, but placed 12AT7 Mullards in V-1 and V-3, and a NOS 5751 in V-2, and put a perfectly balanced NOS 12AT7 in the phase inverter slot.
Just recently, after the stock EL-34's started to go, I put JJ KT77's in it.
The tone has chnaged with every different tube I replaced, but the sound is smoother, less distortion with higher gain settings now and very vocal-like and violin-esque sounding.

Every change in the chain from the strings through the speaker should make a difference.
My Einstein has more of a classic European amp tone to it now, with clearer sarturation and more sustain.

Hi again,

well, I think, especially the Einstein reacts very sensitive, when you change tubes, speakers!!! and Pickups!!!! (guitars).

I went through some pickups and speakers and ended up using a strat with a bareknuckle VHII Humbucker, a Staufer Blues singlecoil in middle and a Fralin Vintage Hot in neck position.

I kicked out the Vintage 30s out of my Diezel 212 and replaced it with G12-65, G12H30 Heritage and G12M Greenbacks. Now I'm using 2 Greenbacks (I like the woody tonk tonk), but the G12H30 Heritages and the G12-65 are still a good choice for me, great speakers, depending, how loud I'm playing and what kind of music.

But all these speakers deliver the classic blues- and rock sound (fantastic Billy Gibbons like), which I love as well. I'm not playing metal.

And I have to say, that I was in Peters workshop, and he replaced two tubes, which weren't properly working anymore, and he did some tweaking on the amp and told me, now it would sound more like the newer Einsteins - whatever that means.

It took a while but now I'm really happy with the sound - Einstein delivers the classic rock-tone for me and If I want, the more modern hard-rock sound.

Consider the speakers, you are playing and the guitar/pickups - and ask Peter, Acy or Düsentrieb, which tubes they might recomend for your needs. That are the guys, who know their business.
And - Acy is always playing his pickups - have you visited his website and listened to his clips? I have '62 in my PRS, and it deliver the classic rock-tone with the Einstein as well. Not to forget, Acy sounds always like you heared in that video, no matter, if he is playing Marshalls, Einsteins or Schmidts. That is his playing.

Don't give up to get the Einstein to where you want to have it. It is worth the work, cause it is a fucking good amp. I like Marshalls as well, but the quality of the Einstein is millions of lightyears above.

Good luck to you!
I'm happy with my Einstein!

That's the kind of info I was looking for-THANKS!

Acy also wrote me back and has given some tube ideas too. I appreciate all the info and comments guys.

Thanks Eddie; can't wait to get it going with one of these again; my plans kind of fell through,so it won't be as fast, but I'll still have one soon.

I'd love to know what that means too. Anyone?
