Greetings All!

So, I've recently become a proud owner of a Torpedo Cab. The sounds captured within it are frankly fantastic - I've been using a Digidesign Eleven Rack since 2010 for all my tones which I like, BUT....

I miss the whole 'warmth' of a tube-tone. The Eleven tones are good - but I'm not hitting that 'connection' you get when playing from a guitar > amp > cab.

the Torpedo CAB captures those nuances for me, hands down. So, what I'm looking at is a preamp to dish up some nice hard rock / metal tones (with maxon od808 boost.)

My ethos on tone is that it has to sound warm, chunky, articulate and dynamic.

My two favourite axes are a ESP LTD EC1000 with EMG 81 and 60 combo and custom Phoenix Pacifica with Bare Knuckle Warpig and Sinner pickups.

Currently, I'm leaning towards trying the following with the Cab -

Engl 530 preamp

If I'm being honest - something like this is pretty much maxing my current budget. I would also be covering a 4u rack to put the preamp and eleven in, along with a noise-gate as the built in one with the eleven leaves a lot to be desired.

I'm guessing the tone path would be - Guitar > Preamp/pedal> Cab > Eleven fx return for post amp fx - delay/chorus/verb etc.

Regarding tones, here's a few I find that 'speak' to me -

Alter Bridge - One Day Remains

Testament - Native Blood

Now, I know Tremonti et al use a whole range of amps - Bogner, Diezel, Mesa etc - and Testament are currently rocking the EVH 5150 III. Unfortunately, right now I can't stump up the £££$$$ for any of these. But, I'd be happy to try a rack preamp / pedal or also Low wattage head in conjunction with the Cab/Eleven setup.

Anyone with any recommendations or sound clips of what they are rocking would be great. I recently ordered a Amptweaker Tight Metal, thinking this and the Cab would be a great portable recording/gig setup - but it sounded like a wasp in a jar...It's a great product, just listen to the clips, but REALLY shines with a tube amp. So that's going back and my refund goes towards rack/pedal/head etc.

Any tonal nirvana guidance would be most appreciated!

Cheers!

Ps - Can't *wait* for the Torpedo Blender to drop!

I am getting one of the Wampler Triple Wreck pedals and run that into my Live in addition to my amp. I may pick up a Bogner Red pedal as well.

A couple of shining examples if you haven't seen them......

Cheers PB,

The Wampler Triple Wreck does sound good - but my concern is that this would be going straight into the Torpedo CAB - which might not yield such good results as no further shaping from amps pre/power section to flavour.

The beta should be online... today. ;)

The pedals we have a good experience with :

Sansamp Character series : blonde (hard to get a clean sound though), US Metal, Bass.

Bogner Red and Blue

Wampler Triple Wreck, SLO, all the amp-in-a-box series is interesting

Hughes & Kettner Tubeman MKII (I like clean tones, not that much the lead channel)

Catalibread RAH

On the Rack Side:

Engl 530 (rock) & 570 (good for high gain)

VHT GP3 (I let you guess)

BRUNETTI Mille (rock)

Is this stand alone software or does it have to be used with on of the Two Notes plugs? And how might we get the beta?

Based on some of the other pedal demos here going into the CAB version, I don't think you will have a problem at all!

I really would like to have a chance to try the ENGL especial edition pre amp.

I've been using a Mesa Boogie Triaxis with the P1 free plugin and it sounds amazing. I have to wait a couple weeks until my iLok2 come in so I can use my P1-10 Modern Pack plugin to have its full options.

The Triaxis is amazing. I love its Lead 2 Green Channel and its clean is killer as well. Also, I love its preset storage capability.

I'm also anxiously waiting for the Torpedo Reload to arrive so I can use again my Mark V without bothering neighbors and at volume levels higher than bedroom

Another great option for the Two Note's CAB (or other models) is;

The Egnater/Randall MTS series of modular tube preamps is perfect with the Torpedo CAB seeing the CAB can provide an awesome tube power amp sim as well as awesome cab/speaker/mic sims. The Egnater/Randall M4/R4 rack units can MIDI switch between up to four different MTS tube preamps (with series/parallel FX Loop) , so you can have for example Fender, Vox, Marshall, and Rectifier preamps all setup at once in 2U.

NOTE: Some Egnater modules are dual channel, some Egnater and all Randall modules are single channel, so 4 dual channel modules give you 8 MIDI switchable tones etc.

Here's a couple of MTS module providers...

...and there are many, many more modules available (Egnater, Friedman, VooDoo, Hilligan, Sacred Groove to name a few).

Can you get only the Pre signal out from your Savage? I can`t get only the Pre signal out from my Mark V. When I connect the FX send to my audio interface nothing goes out. I don`t know if I`m doing something wrong or if this is just normal.

Depending on the amp, the FX send may be activated only if the power amp section is not bypassed, so you need to have a cabinet hooked up (or a loadbox).

I don't know if this is the case with the Mark V but you should check for that. ;)

Your effects loop may have switching that activates only when a jack is plugged into the return jack as well. If this is the case, a device such as the Suhr Mini Mix or Lehle Parallel will allow you to send to Torpedo while retaining the signal flow through the amp to speakers.....on the other hand if you wish to record silently, also plug a 1/4 cable into the return and make sure the other end isn't touching anything...maybe tape it up...the speaker must remain connected but no output would come out. The send would then go to the CAB
