Preset vs Output level and adjusting them via midi

I'm using a Torpedo Live for gigs and am very happy with it.
Currently I'm running just 1 preset for the entire gig, no switching.

Recently I've been thinking about using the Torpedo to 'boost' a few sounds and switch this via midi.
1 option is to create a separate preset with a higher output and just switch that via midi.
The other option is to use midi CC to set the level.

Both options bring me to a question about the difference between Preset and Output level.
If I want to boost a particular preset compared to another (all other parameters staying the same), should I use the preset or output level? I think I can use either one but curious if it would be better to use one or the other. I think the Output level is my best option

Secondly, both these level settings can be set via Midi CC. The Output level CC is controlled via CC 0 - 107 0 and has a range from -95dB to 112dB (I assume this should be +12dB) So CC value 95 is 0dB, would sending value 97 boost the level with 2dB? So an instant access switch on my midi controller, sending value 95 and 97 would let me switch between normal level and 2dB boosted level?

I currently do something very similar. My ground control pro does not allow to preset specific ranges of values for CC. I have a 2nd preset set with more output volume, and that works well. When I want to add a volume boost to an existing patch, I have a cc set to turn on the preamp. This does slightly color the sound. I still need to fiddle with it a bit, but it works out for now.

I think I would have to use a midi event processor to get the kind of functionality with the GCP.

bear in mind that the global parameter would be retaining its assigned value after a subsequent program change while the patch parameter would automatically get reset when changing or recalling the patch.

In other words, use the preset volume, it was designed exactly for what you want to achieve. ;)
