We are introducing the Pro Series Modern models (dubbed M1 and M2) that really provide bang for the buck in terms of looks, features, tone and playability in a modern Floyd-equipped 24-fret guitar. These guitars are built for both for speed and tone.

Here are three of the Pro Modern prototypes shown at NAMM:

M2 in Ice Blue Metallic

M1 in Copper Metallic (started as Orange Crush but doesn't look like it)

M1 in Gun Metal Gray

M1 has pau ferro fretboard with matching color headstock. M2 has the maple fretboard. All the Pro Moderns will have the non-gloss "soft touch" finish and this is where we can save a lot in labor (no buffing work required) and pass on the savings to the consumers. These will also have stainless steel jumbo frets.

Other basic specs:

Alder body
Maple neck with Pau Ferro or Maple fretboard
Modern Elliptical neck shape - .780-.830
1.650" nut width
Jumbo stainless steel frets
Gotoh Floyd locking trem system
Vol, Tone, 5-way
SSV humbucker in the neck
SSH+ humbucker in the bridge
Deluxe heavily padded gig-bag (hard-shell case would be an upcharge option)
Other colors: Purple Haze and Charcoal Web
The 5-way settings:
1 - Neck humbucker
2 - Outside coil of neck humbucker
3 - Both humbuckers
4 - Inside coils of both humbuckers
5 - Bridge humbucker

List price will be $2900 and the street price will be $1995. A custom version of this guitar with gloss finish (like the Mercedes Blue Metallic one that Guthrie has) would have a list price of $3600~3700 and the street price would be in the $2500~2600 range, so these Pro Moderns are a great value.

Looks great!

I wish these could have a mahogany body and hardtail bridge though. I'm just picky though. :)

Could you do one with Aldrich pickups?

Sorry, we need to keep things uniform and efficient for the Pro Series and really can't make exceptions as that's the only way we can keep the cost down on the Pros.

FYI, Doug Aldrich played the SSH+ and SSV combo for years and he was perfectly happy with 'em. We were even thinking of just renaming the SSH+ the Aldrich but decided to tweak the SSH+ a tad to make it the Aldrich (essentially just a bit hotter).

That's good to know!!! When will you have pictures up for the other colors. I'm interested in seeing the Charcoal one. The Orange is quite interesting too though :).

We're working on M1 with that finish now. We looked at 5 color samples and settled on one and it should look really cool. We'll keep you posted.

We're also looking at a jet black sort of finish to offer for the Pro Moderns. I know that black is kind of plain, but there should always be someone looking for black guitars.

IN todays fury of price increases that is a damn good price for a very well made guitar, nice job John and Ed!

Ed, is the black also the rubber feel finish or is that a standard finish? Im a little concerned about the finishes. Will a sweaty forearm "stick" to them at all?

That concern aside, these are a sick value and Id like to get one to add as a brother to my Standards!
