I was playing on Ch1 Mode 3 and suddenly the volume started to gradually fade until there was pretty much nothing. Mode 1 on the channel seems to work and Ch2 seems to work. I don't want to start taking out a bunch of tubes. Based on these symptoms, is there a certain tube that could be the culprit?

thanks,

brian

from the off. site, tech corner:

Einstein:
V1 Used by both channels
V2 Used by channel 2
V3 Used by both channels
V4 Mixer & Loop Driver
V5 Return Driver
V6 Phase Inverter
V7 (just combo) Reverb (12AT7)

so V2 cold be causing your probs.

But Ch2 is working as far as I can tell. THe problem is that Ch1 modes 2 and 3 no longer produce output. And though Mode 1 and Ch 2 seem to work, I don't know if perhaps they have been affected in some way by whatever is causing Ch 1 Modes 2 and 3 to not work.

thanks,

brian

Swap out V1 and V3 with some tubes and see if that helps.

Sorry, I was obviously confused.

Swap V3 and V2 to see if it goes away.

Hi Peter,

I replaced the tubes back when I was having that weird problem where Einstein was making those weird screetching noises (you might recall that problem turned out to be bad filter caps). Maybe one of the new tubes was unstable. I have a tube tester that I have never used and plan on testing the tubes over the next few days. I'll post back the results here.

tschuess,

brian

Now the Einstein is working, but I didn't do anything... Does that suggest something is shorting out? Perhaps a short occurs every now and then when the amp has been on for a while (i.e. heat related)? Could that be possible? Do tubes sometimes short out then go back to normal?

thanks,

brian
