EDIT: Turned out to be a Trim Pot, thanks Peter, going to leave up the problem description though in case someone else experiences this!
Hey guys, have an issue with the VH-4 I just purchased, it's a bit strange and unlike anything I've dealt with before. I have already E-mailed Peter and am waiting to hear back, but I always have great luck with posting things here so I figured it can't hurt, maybe you guys have experienced something similar.
The head is a 2007, loaded with KT77's and a mix of high end preamp tubes, it's in excellent shape, the gentleman I bought it from was an incredibly nice guy, the original owner, and swears that he has never had an issue with the head (I do believe him).
Anyhow, on to the problem.... the head makes incredibly bad hissing noises when on any of the gain channels, the exact kind when you are plugged straight into your amp and you stand right in front of it with your guitar, except it does it constantly.
When the gain is turned up, the hiss gets louder, I should note that even with the gain at noon the noise make the amp close to un-useable. And channel 4 is horridly bad.
Now I am getting this problem plugged straight into the amp with a known good cable and speaker cable, let me explain something strange, when I went and got my pedalboard, and plugged into my Tuner and Noise Suppressor but did NOT turn any of them on, the noise is much better on channel 3, but channel 4 is worse. I have tried every cable I own, I know it isn't a cable issue, I found this extremely odd. If I turn on the noise suppressor it changes nothing on any of the gain channels.
I have swapped all the preamp tubes, and it made no difference, I don't have power tubes at the moment, but I've owned tube amps for forever and never seen power tubes cause this type of issue, I would be more than pleased to find out it is in fact just a power tube issue, but they seem fine, aren't red plating, and most certainly aren't microphonic when tapped lightly.
Any suggestions? Ideas? Making a UPS claim will be difficult because there is absolutely no sign of damage what-so-ever, I'm in a bit of a tough spot as I don't have much money to ship this thing all over the place to a certified Diezel tech either.
Anyhow, any input is greatly appreciated, as I said before I've tried different outlets in the house, cables etc... I always go through all that before even posting here, thanks fellas!
