I'm about 90% sure that I want to get a Soldano Avenger 100 (w/ loop) as my next amp. I simply can't afford an SLO and think this is the next best thing. For those of you with experience, what are the pros and cons of the avenger? How close does it get to its SLO brother? Since I tend to be a tweaker, I'm a tad worried about getting a single channel amp, but I love the soldano high gain sound. Any opinions would be great.

The two channel hot rod that has the channel bleed will be closer to the slo - but I actually prefer it without the bleed. If you want to play with pedals and a clean or low drive side you might want to look at the two channel version. Actually that's about the only con I can think of and it might just be a con for how I use stuff and not you. Either way it's a great amp. The onetics trannies they are using in the non-slo100 amps these days get them even closer to the slo compared to the old ones they used which I think were mercury.

Lots of time with both particularly SLO's... Soldanos are great!! the difference between SLO and Avenger is mostly in the clarity and detail of the top end. More 3d... The Avenger is killer and for chunky riffs....it is as good or better for that kinda stuff because it is little less hi fi sounding. Ultimately the SLO is better and more versatile. but for heavy stuff avenger is right there...

if you are a tweaker then do the tweaking on the guitar not the amp with either SLO or Avenger pu volume knob etc and just dial in the amp loud and proud and use guitar to get a variety of tones. if you like to twist amp knobsand flip switches a bunch, Soldano is not the ticket.

If there was an Avenger where I could footswitch between the high and low inputs, It would be great!

If both jacks are always live you can use an a/b box between your guitar and the amp to do that like on a 4 input marshall.

I owned both and the avenger was a great amp, i cant think of any cons other than being 1 channel. You can tell both amps are related and in the same family. At lower vol the avenger sounded better to me, i also think the avenger was a little bit tighter in the lows but thats just going from memory because i havent played it in years.

Great amp, loved the one I had. Didn't really sound like a SLO at all to me.
One channel plug and go. I've been looking for them used lately. You could snag them for $800 a few years back.

The VHT Fryette Deliverance is another great amp like the Avenger.

If I wanted an slo and could not afford one I would buy a Baron.

The deliverance is amazing as stated but sounds NOTHING like an SLO.

My friend had an Avenger that was loaded with SLO transformers. Great amp but I need an FX loop and another channel or 2. My friend also had a Cameron modded XTC that we compared with the Avenger. I remember Avenger versus XTC red channel...........the Avenger was my clear winner.

Pro: It will make you 623 million dollars
Con: Licensing agreements makes it hard to do many of your best story lines since you have to exclude any mention of Spider-Man, X-Men, Fantastic Four/Silver Surfer/Galactus, etc

There's a SLO on ebay that I was tempted to get, but I just didn't want to spend the money on it. In my hunt, for soldano tone and listening to lots of clips, I thought the hotrods were too bright and the avengers were too dark. So this morning I cheaped out and ordered a Jet City JCA100HDM for 5 bills. It sounds like a Soldano hot rod that's on the darker side of things, so I hope I like it when it arrives. If It doesn't work out (and for the price, it might not) I might just get a Baron. I had never heard of their amps before, so thanks for the heads up. They sound like a crossover between a slo and 5150.
