Are these guitars any good? Are they worth the money?

The specs seem pretty stripped down for a guitar at this price point, but I wonder if the build quality is worth it? How is the fretwork on these?

I have a lower-end Gibson Les Paul Tribute that looks pretty rustic and plays OK, but sounds incredible. I wonder if this is sorta what it's like with the PRS? Or does it have the higher-end PRS playability as well?

Not sure how I feel about it having the cheapie Korean bridge. Not too concerned about the import pickups since I have a set of Fishmans I could drop in, but is the bridge something that needs replacing? I don't really intend to do lots of trem action, but I wonder how it sounds. The higher-end PRS trems are well regarded as being good-sounding (other than functioning well), but is this import bridge something that's going to need replacing?

Thanks!

Anyone have experience with the S2's?
I've owned several. They're great guitars, but I'd suggest buying used. New, they're grossly overpriced, and you take a BIG hit trying to sell it. Resale on new S2's are shit.

Speaking of shit, the pickups are just that, shit. Factor in replacing them. They suck.

OH, yeah, for sure. I've got several pickups I can drop in. Just wondering about how the tone is unplugged. Are they nice and resonant? And how about the fretwork? Can the action be set nice and low?

Yes to all the above. No shotty fretwork, play/sound great. Same attention to detail as the Cores. But, shitty electronics/pickups would be the only cons.

I had the higher end S2 Customs, and Singlecuts. They're great guitars, but need upgrades. Locking tuners work good.

Awesome, thanks! What about the trem? Do you think that needs upgrading as well?

I have a S2 standard and its a great guitar. Zero issues with fretwork. I use it as one of the guitars in my regular rotation. I ditched the stock pickups and have Fluence Killswitch Engage pickups in it and it's a screamer! The trem stays in tune extremely well. Not a floyd, but it works just as well as a gotoh 510 for staying in-tune. I got it used for under a grand. New prices on the S2's are crazy! They haad a price increase of about double what they used to be. My only complaint is the neck shape. I'm not a fan of PRS neck shapes. The Pattern Regular is too thick and the Pattern thin just isn't comfy.

I bought my S2 Singlecut right when PRS introduced the new McCarty line and axed most of the other Singlecuts. Price I paid was pretty good considering what the S2 McCartys are going for new.

However, great bones. Much better construction, but they still have SE electronics and hardware. Not an issue for me since I usually swap that stuff out anyway.

If buying today, I suggest go used as suggested before.

What did you do about the battery in your standard? Do you have it under the pickguard? I'm a bit concerned about that since Fishmans do eat up batteries faster than EMG's, and I plan to drop a set of Will Adlers in there if I do end up getting it.

I've replaced the batteries maybe 4 times now. I don't think they eat batteries. but yes, I slacken the strings, unscrew and lift up the pickgaurd and replace the battery. I don't find fishman/ EMG pickups to eat up any more battery than one another. Just my personal experience. I have an EMG 57/66 set in another guitar (for reference).

Yeah, I'm dubious, because the one I'm looking at is cheaper because it's an older model with the Pattern Regular neck. I'd prefer Pattern Thin, TBH.

I have a possible trade lined up on a S2 Custom 22. Have never owned a PRS so I am interested at least.
