there's a reason billionaires pay little income tax: it's called borrowing; just as Trump, Buffet, Musk, etc. do. You don't pay taxes on on borrowed money.
Because of the "buy, borrow, die" strategy that many wealthy use, the 400 wealthiest American taxpayers actually pay an average effective federal income tax rate of around 23%, many pay much less percentage wise than middle class workers earning low six figures. The highest bracket is currently 37%.

if your investments are earning more, e.g., 10%+; my ROI for 2024 so far is over 23%; why I have "no interest" in paying off my mortgage that's under 4%, it makes sense to borrow at much lower rates.
the current secured overnight financing rate (SOFR) is 5.33%; if you have sufficient wealth, you can find a much lower, fixed rate; some under 3% that you can lock in for a longer duration. I'm sure Musk, Gates, Buffet, etc., are not borrowing at 3% or more. in addition, these are usually interest only loans, so you only have to pay back your interest every month.
if kameltoe manages to tax unrealized capital gains, these investments will move into real estate or similar; some already use a combination of investments including real estate (no capital gains, depreciation), market investments and private equity.
I'm sure the wealthy have a plan to counteract kameltoe's stupidity.
edit: this is oversimplified, and I don't have the wealth to make it work; but it's good to know how it works.

I really hate to hear that. And it's a reality that some just can't relate to. After this last 4 years specifically, I don't know how anyone could be so absolutely blind to who tried to help and who was a government mule taking a paycheck and campaign money to oil the machine that runs us over instead of try to slow the machine down.
I started mine halfway through Trumps term. I quit working for a Nascar champion at the time. I was getting so much side business, the economy was so good people were getting all their fabricatiom projects handled. I went ahead and took the leap for self employment full time.
Went VERY well... until they unveiled the great plan to send us back to the dark ages and into a statistically worse financial period than the original great depression....
It's been a rapid decline for 4 years.
Now I've spoken with companies that buy hundreds of thousands of dollars of metal material. Trump had China paying their due taxes to keep doing import business. Steel was cheap as fuck with his plans and diplomatic agreements.
There was not a single war costing America BILLIONS of dollars. There wasn't record numbers of immigrants given housing and food while Americans were left to struggle and lose their houses.
NONE OF THAT HAPPENED UNDER TRUMP.
And it's baffling how so many cant see this.
4 years of increased everything. 80% increase in home owning. So if you didn't have a mortgage locked in or already own a house before 2020 then you were thrown to the wolves. Most people who support the other side seem to be sitting pretty, own the house, locked the mortgage in and made out okay. The rest of us... FUCKED.
And if these idiots let harriat karmello get in, it's not going to get any better. She's just another government puppet.
You have to see America as GOTHEM. And when corruption is so high and powerful, who is the only one who can fight it? The Billionaire who cars about the city.

Regulations, particularly lead abatement, drove my costs way up, while simultaneously I was being dramatically undercut by companies who are employing, eh, cheap, imported labor. They basically managed to take a skilled trade and turn it into menial labor.
