Anyone tried the Ruby EL34BHT
from the website
We have had a great response to our new RUBY EL34BHT tube. Many engineers have asked about what kind of power can be expected from the EL34BHT. In our tests, we used 600 V on the plates, 540 V on G2 and a bias setting of –54V. The tubes idled at 25ma each. The power output from a pair of EL34BHT tubes using these voltages was 70 watts at clipping.
I have tried them in quite a few amps and made an effort to like the tube. In the end, I just paid up for the SED's. They are pretty much a Winged C filament in a bigger bottle. The tubes do not have the big bottom end or silky top end of the SED Winged C though. With the bigger glass comes more chime and more headroom, neither of which is I wanted. I guess if that is what you are after though. Ruby has a new tube, the EL34BG that just came out. Same filament, smaller bottle and pretty much the same electronic characteristics as the BHT and similar to the SED Winged C. If the Cameron guys are trying to save a little on tubes, this is probably their best bet as Mark always favored the SED.
