I picked up another VX. It sounds like it has more bass than my old one. Is it normal for the VX to be bassy with treble and bass at 10:00 and the bright and bass boost on 1? I'm running the density at 9:00 and the presence at 10:00. The gains are both set at 11:00 or less.

Mine's not .....

The VX treble control has a bigger impact on the Bass frequencies than other modules. Increasing the treble control beyond noon will start cutting bass moreso than boosting treble. I've owned 2 VXs and I remember the first one being more bassy overall, not much but I noticed it. Could be slightly different components? Maybe it was modded if you bought it used  .

Also, what kind of tubes are you using in it? If they're JJ's, that might be contributing to this.....

I have a Top Boost (randall version) and it works like the VX

Scott, I'll try running the treble higher to lean out the bass. This VX has a lot more bass than my last one.

Also is the VX supposed to have carbon comp resistors? The one I have only has carbon film resistors.

*EDIT* I tried running the treble higher and this took care of the bass issue. Thanks Scott
