I currently own a Renegade head + TM2x12. I've seen the videos on the Tweaker 40/88, it sounds awesome. I really like my Renegade too, SPECIALLY the clean channel which I'm at 70% of the time.

How the clean channel on the tweaker? should someone like me that LOVES fender like cleans, stay with the Renegade or exchange it for a tweaker 40/88? what are the tweaker cleans like?

cheers!

The new Tweaker stuff will sound slightly different on the clean side, since they have more power, which equals more headroom and less break up. It's just a different sound from the Renegade honestly. Maybe some of the people who played the amp at NAMM can give some opinions on which one they like better.

thank you Ian.

I'm after the clean headroom honestly, if I want grit I use pedals. But since you guys have vast experience with modules I'd like to know what does the Tweaker clean channel takes after...... we all know the Renegade is basically a Bman module clone, and the OD is a SL clone of some sort.

Is the Tweaker a T/D? Vox? this is important to me because I like Fender cleans not so much into Vox cleans, so If I'm gonna sell the Renegade for a tweaker I'd like to be really informed. I like the Renegade a lot too, but seeing the Tweaker has two identical channels seems very cool since I don't have to compromise on tone.

Joey, if you love your Renegade, why are you thinking of trading it in for a Tweaker?
Just curious...

well three main reasons honestly.

1) while I adore the Renegade's clean channel, the OD channel is VERY VERY good, but a little bit overkill for me. I seldom play Rock or hard rock, so Most of the time the gain knob is around 9:00 which for some reason doesn't sound KILLER, it sounds, GOOD, but not Killer. When you get the knob around 11 - 12:00 that's when it really starts to sing.

2) Since the Tweaker has two identical channels, I can set one channel for the killer cleans and the other in the vintage setting with a slightly overdriven bluesy tone, like a really hard pushed clean channel.

3) Because I'd love to have at my disposal all the bells and whistles the Tweaker has for recording purposes (I'm the kind of guy that has different guitars to achieve different tones, instead of owning 12 strats or just 12 Les Pauls).

Don't get me wrong the Renegade is a VERY solid, clear sounding, versatile amp, but I feel the tweaker could be a winner.

But it comes down to the clean channel.....I need it to be FENDERY and as good as if not better than the Renegade's (not identical, just AS GOOD)

12:00 which is totally clean, no grit at all. I like my cleans CLEANS, my overdrive is like a clean channel pushed hard (think TS9 sort of thing)

why? have you played the tweaker?

No. But it sounds like the 88 watts would give you that clean headroom that it seems you want, with the two identical channels.

My 2 cents worth.

I have the same problem with the Renegade too. I don't need so much gain on the second channel. I'm running the gain, on channel 2, at 9 to 10 o'clock. whish Egnater had a switch for less gain on channel 2? (tweaker has that) I tried a 12at7 in V3, which sort of worked, to clean up channel 2. Can't wait to try the tweaker.

Funny, I'm the opposite. I run channel 2 with the gain at about 3:00, and it's a killer heavier tone, for rhythm and lead. Channel 1 stays very clean, and I kick in a couple different overdrives for pushed or rockier rhythm.

Definitely, if headroom is what you're looking for, then the Tweaker 88 sounds like what you should try. The 40 will have less headroom than the Renegade. Plus KT88s sound pretty awesome.

very nice. I still need to know what's Egnaters take on the tweaker clean channel :(

They should send me an 88, so I can record some clips.
Just trying to be a good citizen :)

The clean channel on the Tweaker 40/88 will sound very similar to a current Tweaker, but with more headroom. Honestly the major differences in tones from module to module, are the gain and the tone controls. The Tweaker amps emulate switching between 3 different tone controls, and they have gain switches, so it's not really based on one specific module. The Tweakers are really trying to emulate being able to have more than one amp in the box. So basically the best thing I can say is to play a current Tweaker and imagine it with more headroom. If the Renegade is more your sound over the current Tweaker, then the 40/88's probably won't be your thing either. The new Tweakers will definitely appeal to the current Tweaker users though. Sorry I couldn't really answer better than that, but the best thing to do will be play one when they come out. I'm sure there will be plenty of youtube clips as usual when they hit stores too.

thank you Ian, I haven't played the Tweaker that's why I'm asking.
