Peter,

I was just playing my VH4 when the sound just died out...No pop or other strange noise. It was like someone slowly turned the volume all the way down on my guitar. I powered it back up...no sound whatsoever. None of the tube default lights are on, and I checked all my cords, cables, ect...what does this sound like to you?

Is the power coming up normally? (main fuses)

Did you try swapping the preamp tubes? (esp. V1)

Power comes up completely normally...Just no sound. I have yet to inspect the preamp tubes. Have never had this happen with any of my amps, but I'm not a tech...I will check the V1. Thanks.

Call me stupid:
Did you check your speaker cable? Maybe it is broken?

1. V1 and V4 are the only two preamp tubes shared by all channels on the VH4. It would have to be one of those two.

2. Speaker cable.

Let us know what you find wrong....

Older VH4's had six internal fuses as well as the mains fuse. Newer VH4's only have two internal on the midi board and one for the mains.

This may be it...NONE of the pre-amp tubes are lighting up (power tubes are fine). I checked all the cords, cab ect....

Call Your local tech and he should call me

Thanks Peter...I am in Los Angeles. I believe you have a "certified" Diezel tech in the area? Who do you recomend...I could have sworn there was someone nearby that you have recommended in the past...am I correct?

If so, perhaps I should just bring it in?

I have done my best to search for the answer to this question and I just don't know where else to turn.....

Can anyone (Peter?) recommend a Diezel certified tech in the Chicago area? Everyone I talk to seems hesitant to work on my VH4 and it's been making some weird noises that I have been told could be tube noise or microphonic tubes.

Thank you in advance!

Not all preamps tubes light up - it's very manufacturer dependent.
Power tube may have sizzled.
Fuses are slo-blow, but that doesn't mean the volume would slowly go down on your rig.
I hate to say it but it sound a bit like OT issues to me.

Have you always played this thing plugged into a cab?

Best case scenario - as it is with 95% of amp issues - it's tube related, which is a cheap fix, comparatively speaking.

But ya, get in touch with some techs and see what they think.

Good luck
