Before I post this extra long post. I have one question that could solve all of this and make every further question irrelevant.

Does having the high gain option on the KOT still allow me to access ALL of the low gain channel from start to finish? Meaning does the high gain option just provide a little extra? OR does it change the character of the pedal as well?

My name came up on the list and I have some confusion regarding the options and toggles.

I have had this pedal years ago but i cant remember exactly what settings I liked.

I use a boost in front of a high gain amp for metal tones. I am a set it and forget it type if player. I could tinker here and there with other options but typically I just need one thing from a pedal.

I will be getting the high gain option but I'm not sure if it will benefit me having it on both sides or not.

So the external toggle is essentially a secondary source of activating the internal dip switches.

Internal switch configuration:

Normal OD is on the right channel
Clean boost is on the left channel
Distortion mode is on both sides

Given that Normal OD and Clean boost are not accessible on each channel I am unsure what to do.

High gain both sides? The con here is a low gain option for tinkering around and potential resale. I'm not looking to sell but you never know.

High gain Red channel? (Right side) this is what I'm leaning towards. Balls out OD plus high gain yah!!

High gain yellow?

Just looking for some opinions.

Maybe it’s just b/c it’s how I use it but I always thought the KOT sounded best run at low gain in front of an already breathing amp. I say stay away from the ‘hi gain’ option if you are concerned about resale. The distortion channel is always there and that has quite a bit of gain if I remember correctly—I run mine with the boost on one side and normal OD on the other.

Get yourself a VS audio Royal Flush pedal and save a ton of money..

The high gain option isn’t what most people on this forum would consider high gain. It’s more than the standard but nothing drastic. Mine is high gain red side and I really like it with both sides on into the plexi channel on my Smallbox.

the quest for insane high gain!

Better have a great noise gate,

:D

I already know the king of tone is not going to be my number one boost pedal. I've owned one previously I just regretted selling it.

It's one of the few pedals that I really think is worth the hype. Price has gone up again in the last few years which I don't really like but back when it was $250 I'd say it was worth it all day.

It's a really awesome pedal but for a high gain Metal boost I have found better. It's definitely up there though.
